I used to believe that since I could see the people on television they could see me too so I always made sure to act appropriately so that no "star" would see me being bad.

I used to believe…
One of my favourite shows as a very small child was the black and white 'Mickey Mouse Club' repeats that used to air around mid morning. My mother would busily attempt to get her housework out of the way while I was absored. I guess she didn't realise how absorbed I was. I somehow got the notion that the Mickey Mouse Club kids lived inside the television and if only I could smash the glass and get in there I could play with them.
Wish I could remember the look on my mother's face as she intercepted her toddler about to hurl the metallic broom stick through her prize colour television.

I used to believe that Cal Worthington and his 'dog' Spot were selling pussy-cows pussy-cows pussy-cows (go see Cal).
I loved the Carebears up until i watch one movie. All I remember was the bad guy was using the nightmares of children to steal the world's love or something equally cartoonish. But I remember that in the scary part of the movie everything turned black and white as the villian stole all the love. I got FREAKED! I thought it was really happening because the tv color was gone! I cried until my mom turned the station to show me that only that channel was black and white but it was too late. No more Carebears for me.
I used to believe…
When I was 9 or so I knew that the people kissing in movies weren't really married. So when I saw my first movie with a sex scene, I was scandalized that these unmarried people were having sex!
Fortunately my friend's older sister was there to explain that there were things called "rubbers" that the actors used, so nothing really touched and it wasn't really sex. What a relief.
I used to think that when watching TV, the laughing voices in the background were of other people who were watching that show from their homes, so I used to stand by our TV and laugh into the speakers hoping to hear myself on TV.
I used to believe…
Whenever there were technical difficulties and the "Please Stand By" message came on the television, I believed that I fixed the TV by standing next to it until the picture came back.

I used to think cartoons were painted with pencils..and movies were painted with pilots<!!!
i was 12 before i knew there were such things as radio stations. i knew the radio played music but i had no idea how and certainly didn't think there was more than 1 person controlling the whole thing...
i used to believe that tv ratings worked with how many tv were tuned on to that specific show. so when the cancelation of the rosie o'donnell cartoon show came around i turned on all five of our tv sets and called my neighbor to do the same. sadly we didn't save the cartoon, but i did get yelled by mom.
I used to think that all of the people on TV were just standing around waiting for you to turn it on. Once you turned it on they all started their TV shows. The moment you turned it off they all stopped, stood against the inside of the back of the TV like they were lined up against a wall and waited for you to turn on the TV again.

When I was small I used to think that whenever my Dad got up to answer the phone during a episode of Miami Vice that he taped, all the actors stood still. I didn't understand how the VCR worked and that there was a pause button. It took a while before I could comprehend that one. ha ha

When I listened to the radio in the car with my mom, I thought every song was sang live. I asked my mom "How do they get all those bands in there to sing a new song every few minutes?" She then explained recorded music to me.
I used to believe that the songs on the radio were being performed live at the radio station at the time I was hearing them. (But not by small people inside the radio as I've heard others believed.) I finally got the hang of it when I saw a band playing on a TV show while the song was on the radio at the same time and I asked my big sister about it.
I used to believe…
When I was a little girl my father was on TV and radio a lot. Most of his broadcasts were live. Whenever I would hear or see him I would understand he would be at work. Which in my opinion was being inside a radio or TV. It started getting really confusing when there were prerecorded broadcasts and he would be sitting next to me...
I used to believe that there were tiny humans inside the radio. These tiny humans loved music so much that they played and sang all day long, resting only when the tiny human announcer would do the commercial breaks and the news.
