I used to believe…
One of my favorite TV shows was about a giant ball covered in lights that would be lowered onto the roof of a building while people below celebrated.
Every night I would ask my parents to let me stay up to watch it but usually they made me to to bed at 9:00, so I only got to see it perhaps once a year.
It wasn't until I was six that I figured out that the "ball dropping show" only came on once a year on New Year's Eve, explaining why I was allowed up until midnight to see it.
I used to believe that cartoons were actually real, and that there was this fantastical city filled with cartoon characters. I would beg and plead for my parents to take me there because it was my dream to meet Scrooge McDuck. Mainly because I wanted to swim in his coin pool. Might I add, the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit didn't help me to shake this belief either.

When I was little, I saw a music video ("If this is it" by Huey Lewis and the News) in which members of the band had been buried up to their chins in sand and were singing. It scared the living daylights out of me because I seriously thought I was seeing severed heads singing on the beach!
I used to believe that the people on TV could see you. Just like you were able to see them. So I would never change clothes in front of the TV while it was on. My older, and wiser sister, told me that "they" (the people inside the TV) could see you even when it was off!! That was 45 years ago and I still don't have a TV in my bedroom - just in case "they" really can see!
I used to believe that all the shows on TV were happening live at the time I was watching them, so when my bed time came, I would make the case that the kids on TV didn't have to go to bed yet, so why do I have to?
I used to believe that if my Dad took a picture of me stood next to the TV when Going Live was on, it would look like I had really met Sarah Greene. We still have the poloroid!
I was a huge Courage The Cowardly Dog fan at the age of eight until the age of ten. And there's this one episode with this creepy mummy king giving the people three plagues. I had no problems with it at first.
That was until my friend at school said "My brother is afraid that guy's gonna show up in our bathtub."
After that, for a while *I* was afraid the creepy mummy king plague dude was going to show up in *my* bathtub. Hahaha. Now I'm into Courage again 'cause my guardian and I like to watch it together. CREEPY MUMMY KINGS ARE YET TO SHOW UP IN MY BATHTUB, LULZ.

When I was young I knew the songs on the radio were recordings. The singers were not in the studio at the time but I thought the commercials were done live. After all, the dj was really in the studio so why not the guys in the commercials too.
I always thought when someone died in a movie that the person who died was played by a person on death-row so the directors always hired them to make it more realistic

In the video game, DuckTales, Scrooge could use his cane to pogo jump or swing it like a golf club. There was also a big brown boulder in the African Mines stage. This boulder also had a crack on one side.
When I first bought the game, I used to think that you could break this boulder by pogo-jumping on the crack.

I used to believe the D in the Disney logo was a backwards G. I never understood why.

When I was little I thought that musicians would play 'live' at the radio station, that all these bands actually lived at the radio station and waited for their turn to play for us.
I was wondering how are all those people going inside the TV .. I wanted to go in there too and i thought there is a little door on the back of the TV and that i have to find the cookie for becoming smaller (the one from alice in wonderland) so i can get inside.
I used to believe if you were moving the Century 21 people would really come and pick your house up and take you away. (Based on a commercial they ran back in the 80s)

I used to believe that the pirates on the pirates of the caribbean ride would come to life and eat me!
I used to believe…
My mother always allowed my sisters and me watching movies like Ghost, Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman... (you know, all the super appropriate movies for kids). And I used to believe while watching TV that the people in movies and television shows could see me, I could especially tell in those intensely emotional close-up shots in those movies. I would curve my eyebrows and try to be dramatic subtly during these moments thinking maybe they would adopt me to Hollywood as a terrific talent. I was also very scared to pick my nose while the TV was on...just in case that made them change their minds.

when i was 3 or 4 i was obsessed with the movie snow white and the seven dwarves, and i thought all dwarves mined for jewels like the ones in the movie. so when i saw one in the grocery store i yelled to my mom 'where's her pick axe?!'

You know that commercial for the movie "Milk"? Hes on stage, yelling, "I am here to recruit you!" But I was sure I heard, "I am here to make fruit juice!" I knew that couldnt be right, but I had no idea what it could be....
I actually once thought that all music played on radio was performed by live bands. So when one time the music abruptly stopped and the song changed I thought the first band had been murdered and the second band just quickly came in and started playing.
