I used to believe that the Sony Playstation games could be played in the computer. So I placed the disk into the CPU and crashed the entire computer... I got a scolding for doing something stupid. ( I was only 5 then, how was I suppose to know?)

The TV show "I Dream of Jeannie" featured Larry Hagman in the lead role of "Major Nelson," an astronaut. The show made such an impression upon me that I thought Major Nelson was a real astronaut that the show was based on. When I asked my father how many times Major Nelson went to the moon, he explained to me that he was just an imaginary character and didn't really exist. But to me "Nelson" sounded so much like a real astronaut's name, that I found it hard to believe. I later got a book out of the library about astronauts and searched all throughout it for any sign of a Nelson. Of course, I never found one. But I wonder--if one of those Apollo astronauts had the last name Nelson, would I have been convinced for a good while longer that Major Nelson was indeed a real astronaut? Hmmmm...

When I was about 8 years old, I used to watch a few TV programs from time to time. One of them was "Please Don't Eat The Daisies", which was a short lived sitcom about a family with four boys (two of them twins), similar in style to the Brady Bunch that came out a few years later. In "Daisies", the mother was a bit "bubble headed", a little wacky/silly. Somehow I had the idea that when a mother had a lot of kids, it kind of drained her, to the point where if she had too many she'd become really stupid. So I warned my mother not to have any more children (I was the oldest of 2). She asked me why and I said "because I wouldn't want you to become stupid." Needless to say, I went to bed without any dinner that night. I still believed it was true until I was a few years older and I asked a few "careful" questions of my school science teacher, to later learn how silly the idea was. ;-)

I always felt really akward eating while I watched a movie. I thought that only my favorite actors could see me and that would be rude to eat while they talked. ie- Don't eat while Davy Jones is talking on Pirates of the Caribbean, he can see me.

When I was a kid, I was terrified of scary movies and new nothing about the differences between Freddy Kruger and Jason. To me, they were all the same thing. After realizing, that I was born on the 13th and that I lived on Elm Street, I was horrified at the thought that Freddy Kruger could potentially be my father.

When I was eight, commercials for the Coloriffic brand of coloring impliments were all over the place. And I desperately wanted a Coloriffic brand thing, because it showed the kids drawing wild stuff that came to life. Unfortunately the school supply shopping trip passed and we just got normal Crayola (I didn't bother telling my parents why it had to be Coloriffic and nothing else so I just went with Crayola). It wasn't until about fourth, fifth, or sixth grade and I got a set of Coloriffic colored pencils that I realized I had been done in by a clever marketing ploy.
