When I was 4 or 5, I was driving in the car with my mom one day and she tells me that I was staring very hard at the dashboard. She asked me what I was looking for, and I responded with "I'm trying to see the little people that sing and play instruments inside the radio."

When I was little, I watched Pokemon obsessively. (I still love Pokemon to this day, though I'm not a fan of the 4kids dub...) Well, at the end of season one, they had a Pokerap, where they would rap the names of the Pokemon... I was so little, I didn't even know what rap meant, and I thought they said "Wrap". I pictured guys going around in a jeep wrapping any pokemon they see in tinfoil!
I used to believe that what was showing on black & white TVs was filmed in places without color. I felt bad for those unfortunate people that had to live in black & white.

There was a cartoon on "Sesame Street" about a bellhop who had to carry 8 steamer trunks down 8 flights of stairs. I've seen this 'toon enough times on YouTube to know that I misinterpreted it badly as a kid, and as a result I used to be scared of it. I used to believe that as he was carrying the trunks (which I mistook for just being mere suitcases), he was falling down the stairs only to a certain floor (the 6th, maybe), and that there was an elevator next to the stairs on that floor that he tried using, only to find out that the elevator didn't work and he fell down the shaft, floor by floor (with each floor labeled a different number.) There was really no elevator and no elevator shaft he fell down, but somehow I didn't think this as a kid.

On "Sesame Street", there was a song called "Big Kids Cry". It was about three "tough kids" (they looked like Muppet versions of a typical biker gang, heavy metal band, punk band, etc.) who sang about how it's okay for anyone to cry no matter who they are and how old they are. When I was a kid, I thought they were crying because they misbehaved (and that crying itself was a misbehavior), so I was scared of that song as a result.

Wow, this is probably a weird, obscure belief. When I was about 4 or 5 years old I saw an episode of "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood" where a little girl was getting a check-up at a doctor's office, and the little girl was in her underwear when the check-up took place. I believed it was "wrong" that someone would allow a child (or anyone for that matter) to be shown in his or her underwear on TV. I didn't realize back then that that's how people were supposed to be seen during a check-up at a doctor's office. Even when I found out that that's the way people were supposed to be seen during a check-up, I didn't know why this was because as a kid, the only things I remembered my doctor checking that was below my waist was my heart (and the occasional shot in the arm) and usually he'd just slip his stethoscope under my shirt instead of having me take it off (at least that's what I thought...)

I used to believe that if you reversed the radio plug in the socket the music and words would come out upside down and backwards.

Throughout my childhood until I was about, oh I'd say age 10, I always belived that the laughter I was hearing on the TV during certain programs, such as sitcoms, was coming from other peoples homes as they too watched the same show. Who knew there was a such thing as a "live studio audience?"

When I was little, I used to believe that, when I watched a movie, every person that I saw was a real (small) person that was somehow magically stuck inside that tape and forced to perform the exact same thing the exact same way over and over again. I always refrained from rewinding or fast forwarding the tape because I thought it meant that all the people had to do everything really fast.

when i was about 7...I used to get real mad at Jerry from tom and jerry because tom always got the short end of the stick, so i figured i'd help tom out by prying open the glass tv screen with a butter knife and jumping in to help..... thank god i didn't get zapped!
I was an active TV watcher as a kid. But, oddly, as a very small child, I was afraid of the set when it was switched off, especially if the room was darkened. I was somehow convinced that when the TV was off, it could watch ME. This was the era of big, ugly console TVs, and those huge cathode ray tubes that, when switched off, shrunk the picture down to a single raster line that would then slowly converge into a bright "dot" in the center of the screen. Maybe I thought that dot was an "eye" that could see me.
I also remember being freightened when technical difficulties would interrupt a program, and the sudden silence was broken by the repeated recorded sound of a stentorian basso voice proclaiming "PLEASE STAND BY!" I would almost pee my pants, and have to quickly change the channel.
I used to think that when the DJs on the radio played songs it was the artist singing live. I could never figure out how they got people in and out of the "singing chair" and how they got their bands set up so quickly. It's was years later that I finally found out that it's all pre recorded on a tape or cd.

When I was a child, I used to believe that if you cut a person in a magazine with your scissors, it would actually hurt them.

Whenever they would say "This show is brought to you by..." Since I never actually saw the words on the screen, and they just said them, I didn't realize that "brought to you" was 3 separate words. I thought it was one long fancy word that I wouldn't understand until I was older. It sounded like they were saying "bra-tah-yoo" or something. Heheh.
Finally one day they actually put the words on the screen, and I went "Ohhhh!"
I used to think that musicians were shrunken down and playing inside my radio. I spent a lot of time looking through any cracks or open spaces trying to see them.
