I used to believe…

When i was little i used to think the screens in the movie theater were HUGE ones of those TV VCR mixes. I thought there were HUGE videos that a whole army of people would have to carry in. I also thought there were buttons on the bottom, so one time when the movie stopped due to "technical difficulties" i ran up to the screen and searched for a play button. needless to say, i didnt find it.

I used to believe…

When I was a little kid (around 5 or 6). I was always afraid that it was illegal for me to watch any TV show with a rating above anything my parents said I could watch, at that age, that rating limit happened to be TV-Y7, so if a show started and I saw that the rating wasn't TV-Y, TV-G, or TV-Y7, I would panic, grab the remote and instantly change to something that was, because I thought the police knew that I wasn't supposed to be watching what I was, and they'd come to my house and arrest me...

I'm now 13 years old, and my parents let me watch anything up to TV-14, and I always watch things rated TV-MA anyway...but I'm still afraid someone will see me watching it and I'll get in trouble (though I know I won't get arrested...) so I always close my bedroom door, close the blinds, and turn down my TV's volume....just to be safe!

When my mom was a kid, all she had was a radio to listen to and she used to believe that there were little people living inside of it talking and playing music... She never told me this until I was much older - coincidentally, I thought the exact same thing when I was about the same age as she was.

When I was 5, my father put a TV antennae on the roof of our house (this was the early 70's and we only had the rabbit ears until then). A few weeks later, my favorite TV show at the time had its series finale. For the longest time, I would beg my father to take the antennae off the roof, knowing for sure that if it was gone, my show would come back on.

I used to believe that videogames where actuall things that really happen. So when I first saw Bowser I freaked out and started crying (I was 2)

I believed that the teach on Romper Room could see us when she used her magic mirror. I also believed that somehow the middle of it disappeared as opposed to them substituting a mirror with a hole in it when the cut away.

I believed that if I watched a television program I was helping it stay on the air. Conversely if I didn't watch a show that I wanted to stay on the air, I was contributing to it possibly being cancelled.

I thought my posters, and pinups all had tiny cameras attached to the eyes, and that it relayed those videos back to the person in the picture. Because of this, it was only by the age of 13 or so that I could actually change clothes in my bedroom without thinking that someone was watching me.

I believed that a television show would wait for me if I was delayed in getting to the room to watch it.

Whenever I used to see, "To Be Announced" in the TV Guide I thought it was some type of religious show. I pictured singing ladies in dresses walking down stairs and talking about God. I didn't realize it meant the channel didn't know what program was going to be on. Unfortunately, I was in my 20's when I finally figured it all out. My family still hassles me about this. (It really did sound like the name of a chuch show).

I used to believe thanks to Tom and Jerry that if you blow on your thumb hard enough then your hand would turn into a huge fist that would pummel anyone that made you mad. I still find my self blowing on my thumb when im in my room in a bad mood.

When I was little I believed that Casper the ghost from the movie Casper was real. Because he turned into a hot guy when he temporarily came back to life at the end of the movie I had a huge crush on him. I used to believe I was in love with him and that someday we would meet and marry. I daydreamed about our wedding and everything!

My mum used to call those all-in-one sleep suits "wombles" in some bizarre attempt to get me, my brother and my sister to wear them. ("The wombles" was a big tv show for kids at the time). I never realised that there was any other name for them until the tender age of 22 when I called one a womble infront of a large group of friends... Seven years later, I still haven't heard the end of it

When I was little, I remember watching Scooby-Doo reruns and hearing the laugh track. I thought those were people actually watching the show as I was, and I would always laugh loudly and out of place for the other people to hear.

when i was a kid i used to think that if you were in the middle of watching a tv show and you turned off the tv, that when you turned it back on later, it would still be at the same spot in the same show like it was a movie put on pause... i think i believed this because my brother and i were watching some cartoon one day and turned off the tv to go outside and play, and when we came back in hourslater, we turned on the tv again and it was the exact part of the exact same episode of the exact same show we had been watching earlier. it was obviously just a wayyyy coincidental fluke, but from there on out i thought that's how tv worked.

When we got a cable TV one of the channels you had to pay extra for was scrambled so that the image was black-and-white and upside-down. I convinced my little sister that it was the Australian TV.
