When I was young I never used to understand why the couple in Blind Date would go off and come back five minutes later having been on holiday looking completely different- sometimes with different hair colour or skin colour... (for those who don't watch the show of course it turned out they'd disappear behind the doors and the couple who were sent off the week before would come back and tell everyone how they got on!!!)

I used to believe…

When I was 8, (I'm 10) I was convinced that I could use a Gameshark 64 to make game characters come out of the TV screen. I thought I could create a code for my Zelda games that could let you say anything you want to characters, and I thought if I said "Come out of the screen!" it would actually work!

I used to believe that movies were different everytime you watched it. I kept watching The Little Mermaid over and over again because I truly believed that one of the times I watched it, Eric would get to kiss Ariel during the boat trip in the lagoon.

I used to believe…

When I was about 3, I didn't understand the difference between listening to a tape and listening to the radio.
Sometimes, my parents would tape record me singing nursery rhymes and play it back to me.
I would often request to hear, "the little girl on the radio", but never questioned why she sounded exactly like me...

I used to believe…

My parents never had a television, but occasionally I would go to my Grandparent's house and watch it there.
My Grandmother's favourite show was M*A*S*H, so that was the only thing we watched.
Until I was 8, I though the only thing on telly was Hawkeye, Radar and Hoolahan...

I used to believe…

One day when my mother locked the keys in the car at the supermarket, I said "Mom, just hit Re-set!" She decided I was getting a little out of touch with reality and cut down my video game time. I still sometimes wish there was a reset button in real life....

I used to believe…

When I was about six or seven I used to listen to the radio a lot. Then I wondered where the music came from. I used to think that there was little people singing in the radio and every time I went in the car I would turn the radio on and off and look into the speakers. I also thought why would people want to see famous people if you can see them in the speaker? It made no sense......

I used to believe…

When I was a young girl, I would lay down on the rug in front of the stereo speakers, and try to peek inside at the little tiny people in there playing that music. And wonder how in the world they could change the style and sound of the music so easliy, with out ever leting me see them. It would occupy my time for hours.

When I was little and obsessed with the New Kids On the Block, I used to sit in my bedroom listening to the cassettes, staring into the speakers, because I actually thought that they were in there singing to me. I couldn't understand how they were in there, but I new they were. OH GOD!

I used to believe that the news reader on TV in the 80s (Lenon Parkin I think her name was) was called Lemon Parker! She came on the TV and mum asked me in front of others "who's she" and everyone laughed and I didn't know what was so funny!

I used to believe…

Whenever I was I child, I used to think that the music on the radio was being played directly at the studios by the band or musician, as opposed to being played from a CD.

I saw a cartoon where there are these brigands who live in the desert and are a little worse for wear - missing teeth, eyes etc. and they sang a song that said if you don't go to school you will be like them. One line went something like this: "Bom bom bitty bitty bibitty boo we're what happens when you don't go to school." i didn't know what they might by that so i asked my dad. He told me that if you didn't go to school you had to be in a cartoon and do the same thing over and over again whenever somebody watched it. okaaaay.

I used to watch I Dream of Jeanie and wonder how they got her hair to do that! I thought she must have tons of hair to do a ponytail with a braid wrapped around it!

I don't know why the concept of wigs and hair pieces was so difficult for me.

I used to think that is you paused the vidios and went out of the room, they complained about being blured! One time i came back in my room and i SWEAR one of the charactors was in a different position!

I used to believe that the TV show Leave it to Beaver took place in modern day instead of years ago. I couldn't understand why they wore such goofy clothes. And if the family lived in such a huge house, why did the two brothers share a bedroom? And why were they so afraid of their father? He didn't look scary to me, and he never yelled at them.

I always thought that the celebrities I saw at the theaters or on TV were really tall. Every single one of them I thought were at least 6 feet tall or taller. I didn't really think of them as real people.

I asked my mom where the sound from the radio came from, and she told me it was from a radio station that sent the sound from an antenna and that the one on the car (she pointed to it) caught that signal. That made me think that musicians had to live at the radio station to play their songs every day.
