My parents used to watch the show "Dallas" and I watched it with them when I was bored. And due to the accents people have here, they hardly ever pronounce the "R" in anything, so I thought the character "Bobby" (or however his name is spelt) in Dallas was called Barbie.
I used to think that there was a boy living in my tv and he had lots of papers that he had to move really fast in order to create the movement of the toons and that he played their voices as well. I actually even thought he got time to draw it all inbetween.

I used to think hobbits were decorations.
I lived in Boston, and there was (is still) a man who did the news call Listo Fisher. He would end the news by saying "This is Listo Fisher". But I always thought he was imparting an important citation to the news... I heard him say "This is List Official", which to me meant, that was the official news, and that proved it!
I used to believe that the man on the radio, was sitting in a studio and live bands would show up and play the song. I never considered the logistics of this...

When I was a child I thought all singing performers appeared live on each radio station and I often wondered how they could be in so many places at a time ? and how on earth did they fit their live bands in a small broadcasting room ?
I used to believe…
When my parents would listen to the radio I thought that the actual bands set up at the station and sang the song I would hear. I particularly remember imagining Elvis in the studio..cords strewn about the studio, him dancing and singing, and the next band getting ready to set up when he was finished. Apparently it didn't matter to me if the artists were alive or not, they were in that studio!!

when i was young i thought there was a long long tube at the back of the tv, through which 'tv families' and all the folks on tv would walk each morning to get to work and when they were through it - they'd fit in the box... like shrinking as they walked...

When we first got a home computer (a ZX81 back in the early 80s) I believed that if I typed the rules of the game into the PC it would 'play' the game. I proceeded to type in the rules for Monoploy, typed RUN and lo, and behold, nothing happened. I figured my mistake was not to number each line (10, 20, 30 etc...) so did the thing again....

For the longest time, I believed that the songs you hear on the radio were sung by cockroaches inside...

When I was young, I thought all the bands were lined up at the radio station, waiting their turn to go in and play their one song, then leave and the next band would come in.. etc...

When I was young, I used to believe that when you turned on the TV that all of these little people were inside it. I thought that those people were just very small and that the TV company had to find a whole bunch of them to fit in everyone's TV's.
I babysat a child who told me the tv watched him and would tell on him when he did something bad. Perhaps his parents told him that, or he got that from a kid's show where the host said "hello" or "happy birthday" to a child with the same name. It made him a very well behaved child.

after seeing the movie The Tommyknockers as a kid, i was so afraid to step foot on an escalator for months because of the green light shining through the cracks, i thought Tommyknockers lived underneath them
i used to believe that inside the radio in our kitchen were all these people that sat in chairs and waited their turn to talk or sing their songs... they sat there patiently, lined up in a hallway, waiting their turn at the microphone all day...

When I was verrrrry young and I heard a song on the radio, I thought it was live. When I heard it on another station, I figured, they just picked themselves up and moved to another station all day long!

I believed that the costumes on the original Star Trek had shortened pants because there was a cloth shortage in the 1960s.

When I was smaller I was a very big daredevil. I have a really good memory and I can remember this like yesterday. One night we where visiting my moms old friend from a base. We hadnt seen her in 5 years. I was very young and she gave us like 50 movies we could watch. So I picked "Freddy vs Jason" & "Nightmare on Elm Street" I had eaten TONS of tangerines and I was jumping up and down freaked for my life because freddy had just put his hand in the ladys bath. For years I was scared that he might do that to me (still am) and that he might do that with the toilet. And I didnt stop sleeping in my moms bed till last year. When my mom told me that movies where make pretend. Im turning 13 this year. Couldnt she have just told me earlier?

When I was about 4 I believed that when you watched a show or movie that had a laugh track. It was people at home laughing and was being broadcast all over the world. So I started talking very loudly into my VCR saying hi to my friends. Sadly when I played the tape over again wondering why my friends didnt say anything, I noticed that it was the exact same people laughing.

After seeing Bedknobs and Broomsticks, I believed that my bed may fly me away one night. In order to be prepared, I would load my bed with snacks, my favorite toys, blankets and flashlights, so I'd be sure to have everything I needed if I woke up on a cartoon island.
