I used to believe…

When I was a real little kid, there was this local independant station (now owned by the $#(&%( WB which is a DISGRACE!) that showed lots of old cartoons, one of which was Atom Ant (remember? He always went "Up and at'em, Atom Ant!"). Well, I figured he must be the secret identity of Adam Ant (the singer). Don't ask how I thought that would work. It really confused me when during an Atom Ant commercial break, one of those 80s Compilations would be advertisaed and "Goody Two Shoes" would be on the lost of songs. LOL

I use to believe that the cop's theme song was "if you have aids and u have bad dreams don't look at me when they slap u in the face"

When i was younger my mum said that watching too much TV would make your eyes go square, i believed it fully. Quite a few years later i asked her that if TV's make your eyes go square why don't they make round TV's

Whenever I would watch TV and see a commercial for something I wanted, I'd try to call and order it. However, they always said, "Dial the number on your screen," and every time I'd climb up to the window, look all around the screen on the window, and get really mad, thinking i'd missed it.
I guess at some point I figured out they mean TELEVISION screen.

My mom had a bunch of classic silent Laurel and Hardy movies (8mm) which the family as a whole would watch on rare family nights. There was a quote that went something like "You have smirched my character, I demand an apology". Being the dopey kid I was I turned it into, "You have smirched my apology". Repeating this wonderful quote got me lots of laughs. It was only about at the age of 34 or so that I realized why they were laughing at me!

When I was a child I watched Young Frankenstien, with my family. Not being intimately familiar with the Frankenstien story I believed that this was the REAL story. for Yyears afterwards I would correct people on the proper pronounciation of 'Fronkunsteen' and 'Eyegor' and how misunderstood the real Dr. Frankenstien was.

I used to watch the beginning of Romper Room just to see if Miss June could see me through her magic mirror...she never said my name though.

I used to believe…

My parents often watched star trek during dinner and at other times when i was present. I never knew what was going on in the episodes (too young) so I thought that you had to be an adult to know. Furthurmore i thought that the only way you *could* be an adult was to know and that my parents watched star trek only to show off their adulthood.

Now I watch a lot of star trek and I'm still not an adult :(

When I was little I used to believe that cartoons were actually people who were dressed up in costumes. I could not figure out how they could fall off cliffs and get hit in the head with frying pans and still be ok.

I grew up in a Third World country that occasionally received American advertising. I used to believe that the cartoon characters on boxes of cereal were real, but that they only interrupted the breakfasts of American children.

hall of fame

I thought live-action films were very, very well-drawn cartoons.

When I was young I used to believe that the bands, or singers such as Elvis were at the radio station singing. The Beatles, Animals, Rolling Stones, etc.

I used to believe…

In northern California, there's a car dealership owner named Cal Worthington. The jingle for his commercials (set to the tune of "If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands"), was something along the lines of,
"If you want a car or truck, go see Cal!
If you want to save a buck, go see Cal!
If you want a brand new truck, if you want to change your luck, if you want to save a buck, go see Call!"

I, like the majority of kids my age, though he was saying "Pussy Cow".

I thought it was some sort of expression that meant "tough luck", as in, "you want a car? Well, tough, because you can't have one".

I used to think that the people in the TV were talking to me, and I was an integral confidante in their messy lives (TV soaps were a big thing in my house).

I also used to stand right up at the TV and try to see the stuff that was outside the picture - thinking it was a window. I used to get SO frustrated 'cause no matter how close I went, or how much I craned my head, I could never get a glimpse of the rest of Telly World...

I grew up in Germany, so naturally I believed that Disney cartoons were made there, since they were all in German language. It never occurred to me that they might be translated for us. Strangely enough, I knew exactly what other cartoons came from Asia, Italy or Poland, but I was never suspicious of Disney, because even their songs were in German!

I used to believe the static noise you hear when you play around with the radio dial was actually messages from space. I would listen to it for hours on end trying to decipher the alien language.

When i was little I thought the people on TV were actually IN the tv and if you opened the back of the set you would see the small people who lived inside.
