When I was a kid, I tought that peppa pig was real and I wanted to be friends with her.
I used to believe that sitcom stars actually lived in the cities where their shows were set - even though I knew the shows were filmed in studios. For instance, I thought Jaleel White (as Steve Urkel) lived in Chicago, while Jodie Sweetin (as Stephanie Tanner) lived in San Francisco. So, I was quite surprised to learn that these shows were actually filmed right next to each other in Los Angeles!
Early 1990s, around age 5, I assumed TV shows were created by the TV itself and were unique to each TV. I was blown away the first time I heard another kid talking about a cartoon I thought only I could watch.
I used to believe cartoons where real people. You can imagine how that went...
When I was very young, for some reason, I thought if you had a gun and shot your television, you would be able to climb inside it and play with all your cartoon friends!
When I was really little, I misheard "brought to you by" as "broctayu by", thinking broctayu was all one word. I thought it meant something like "affiliated with", as in "these products we're showing commercials for products we liked enough to use on the show". I wasn't entirely wrong, but I had a very naive and simplistic view of it.
