I used to believe that TV programs only played in certain places. I lived in Georgia, and was shocked to find that they could watch "Scooby Doo" in Florida!
I used to think that laugh tracks on sitcoms were the laughter of all the people watching the show, so i used walk up to the speakers on the tv and say stupid things to see what would happen. :)
When I was little, I had two imaginary friends, "Scoola" and "Roe Call". I never understood why this made my family laugh so hard until one day as an adult, I saw a re-run of an old Mouseketeers episode. All the Mouseketeers came out, then they said, "It's time for school and roll call!" and everyone cheered and clapped. I didn't see anyone else come out, so I figured "Schoola" and "Roe Call" must be imaginary.
As a child I believed that my life might just be a book that Pa Ingalls was reading to Laura on Little House on the Prairie.
When I was little I used to watch star trek with my mom . She taught me how to say the things they were like .. " beam me up scotty " and " are you out of your vulcan mind ?". I was little so I told everyone these things , even strangers . I was on an elevator with my mom and I decided to show of my vast knowledge of star trek and show him the cool phrases I knew . I asked him " are you out of your vulcan mind ??" . His mouth dropped open and he looked at my mom . She then explained what I had really said and how I watched star trek . Apparently he and many other people thought I had said f***in instaed of vulcan ...take my uncle sean for example ....he thought he had been sworn at by a 2 yr. old !!!!! lolz
I'm not sure why, but I used to be absolutey terrified of Miss Piggy from The Muppet Show. None of the other characters bothered me, but whenever she appeared on screen I used to cack myself. My mum & dad used to find this very funny for some reason.
I was also convinced that Miss Piggy lived in our spare room and that she'd leap out from behind the door if all the lights were out.
I used to love the TV show 'The Time Tunnel' but i was upset that the heroes were called Douglas and Tony. These were my brothers names, so why didn't they have a character named after me :(
When i was a toddler, I used to spend hours in front of the television watching Barney, Sesame Street, and Mr. Rogers. Then my mother would always tell me that my shows were fixing to go off and her shows (soap operas) were fixing to come on. Then she would change the channel to her soaps.
So naturally I just thought that there was only one channel on the television that played my shows for half of the day, and my mom's shows for the rest of the day.
Really it was just my mother not wanting to miss the next episode of her soap operas.
I remember my parents not letting me watch "Laverne & Shirley" when I was in grade school - I thought it was some perv-sex-adult show. Little did I know they were trying to get me to sleep at 8:30pm.
On Dukes of Hazzard, I used to think that Roscoe P. Coltrane's real name was "Roscoe Peekotrain". I also wondered why the hell Bo & Luke didn't look like Bo & Luke anymore and changed their names to Coy & Vance. Not to mention the guy who would sometimes narrate the show...I wondered why you could only hear him and not see him. It was also quite some time before I found out who General Lee was. After all, it wasn't like KITT on Knight Rider; General Lee could not tell anyone its name.
Man, kindergarteners are so oblivious.
When I was 4 I used to watch this show called "Eerie Indiana." It stared two guys in it who investigated stuff or something like that. Anyways I I always heard "Iry and Deana" and belived the show was called that because those were the names of the two boys who investigated, I just couldn't figure out why nobody ever called them by those names on the show.
I used to think that Alex Trebek's name was 'Jeopardy Alex', because after introducing the contestants, the announcer would say "Now here's the host of our show, Jeopardy's Alex Trebek!" I thought he was saying 'Jeopardy Alex Trebek', and anyone who hosted the show had to change their first name to 'Jeopardy'.
I used to wonder how the announcer on TV nature programs managed to "direct" animals to do exactly what the announcer was talking about at any given moment.
Wow, this is probably a weird, obscure belief. When I was about 4 or 5 years old I saw an episode of "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood" where a little girl was getting a check-up at a doctor's office, and the little girl was in her underwear when the check-up took place. I believed it was "wrong" that someone would allow a child (or anyone for that matter) to be shown in his or her underwear on TV. I didn't realize back then that that's how people were supposed to be seen during a check-up at a doctor's office. Even when I found out that that's the way people were supposed to be seen during a check-up, I didn't know why this was because as a kid, the only things I remembered my doctor checking that was below my waist was my heart (and the occasional shot in the arm) and usually he'd just slip his stethoscope under my shirt instead of having me take it off (at least that's what I thought...)
when my mom was a kid she would watch the beatles cartoon show. she believed that the actual beatles acted in the show and wondered how they would have the time for being in the show.
I used to watch Romper Room with baited breath when Helen Mirren took out her Magic Mirror and called out the names of the children she could "see". Iwas so excited when she finally "saw" me. I really believed her mirror could see into my house!!
I used to love Rainbow and much to the amusement of my friends I've only just learnt that George, the pink hippo, was infact male. I thought with the long eyelashes and tiara that George (short for Georgina) was particularly girly. Oh the naivety of youth!
i used to think that the people on the cosby show were played by bill cosby's real family. i still thought it was a scripted show and everything, but i thought they were all related.
When I was about 4 years old and used to watch the TV show "Alice" with my family, I would do my impression of one of the waitresses. When she said, "Mel, kiss my grits" to the owner, I didn't know what grits were. I would say, "Mel, kiss my grips!" My family would crack up at me messing up the line and I thought they just liked my impression!
I used to think "The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air" was actually a prince and one day he had to go to court for some parking tickets(or whatever) and I remember thinking "he can't get in trouble, he's the Prince!"
