As a thoughtful and intelligent little boy around age five or so during Christmas, I one day approached my Mother and asked, "Whose story is Rudolf in?" My Mom, perplexed, asked what in heavens did I mean. I replied logically, "The song keeps saying 'You'll go down in his story': whose story does he go down in?!"

The line 'The dark sacred night' in What A Wonderful World is actually 'The dogs say goodnight'...
I thought in the song Zombie by The Cranberries she was not saying "In your head, in your head, zombie, zombie: but rather "In your head, in your head, ze army, ze army" (i.e the army said with a German accent, and for some reason it didn't occur to me that she didn't have a German accent any other time she sang..)

When I was little, I always listened to a Sesame Street tape in the car. When I asked my mom something about one of the songs that was playing, she said she couldn't hear it because it was only playing in the back of the car (we drove a van with two different speakers). So I used to think that the characters from Sesame Street were in the trunk and singing, so I would always look back there!
I believed for a very long time that the Beatles were one of those bands that wrote for children. I loved "Octopuses Garden in the Shade." It took until four weeks ago, when I listened to all of Abbey Road.

When I was younger and Breaking Benjamin was the thing, I could never quite understand that he was singing "Diary of Jane". I was so curious as to why he would be singing about a "Diarrhea chain", or what the hell a Diarrhea chain was. I didn't like the song for a while until I realized he wasn't singing about feces.

In the 70's KC and the Sunshine band had a hit called something like "Get down tonight." or at least that was one of the lyrics. I had a lot of hearing problems as a kid ( infections, etc.) that affected my hearing. So I always thought that KC was singing "get calgonite" which I thought was some kinda brand name dish washing soap, and was always mystified why he was doing a song that was kinda a commercial and so into dish washing soap.

I always thought that the lyrics to Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start The Fire" were "Trouble in the sewers" instead of "Trouble in the Suez."

The Macy Gray song, 'I try' has a line that says...My world crumbles when you are not here' but for years I was convinced it was 'I wear googles when you are not here'

When I was younger, I thought that John Berry's "She's Takin' A Shine" was really "She's takin' a shower" and would sing it this way at the top of my lungs in the car.

On the song Psycho Killer by Talking Heads he says "Psycho killer, Qu'est-ce que c'est" (French for "what is it?") I thought at first he was saying "Psycho killer, kiss Casey" and I wondered who Casey was and why the psycho killer would kill him/her

In the movie Grease 2, one of the greasers tells the girls to "read it and weep!"after they win at bowling. I thought he was saying "read it in a week!". I thought that was a very strange phrase because that's a very long time to read the scores to their game of bowling.

In the song "It's a hard knock life" from Annie, I used to believe the song was saying "it's a hard enough life!" I was told a few weeks ago that it wasn't. I'm 16 years old.

My daughter's version of "The King of Rock and Roll" by Prefab Sprout is cute. Instead of "Hot dog, jumping frog, Albuquerque," it's "Hot dog, jumping frog, I want cupcakes."
I like her version better.
