I used to believe…

About every month since 1978 my Dad will utter at some stage while going about his daily business the opening line of Bonnie Tyler's "It's a Heartache" as "It's a hard egg, nothing but a hard egg". We have even invented the French version of the song: "C'est un oeuf dur, rien qu'un oeuf dur..."

I used to believe…

The first time I heard "Nice Girls" by Melissa Manchester, it sounded very clearly like she was singing:

Nice girls (nice girls),
They all gotta potty.
Nice girls (nice girls),
They doo-doo.

The real lyrics (which I was able to look up on a website) are:

Nice girls (nice girls),
Think alot about it.
Nice girls (nice girls),
They do it too.

How I wish I could have misheard it that way much earlier, as a small child. For my sister once told me that having to "doo-doo" is a result of having been naughty, and if you were never naughty, you'd never have to do that.

I used to believe that the song my bonnie lies over the ocean was my body lies over the ocean.

I cant remember which song it is, but their was a song by marilyn manson that sung:
'Prick your finger
It is done
The moon has eclipsed the sun.
The angel has spread its wings
The time has come for bitter things'

I had a terrible mishearing of it though. my version was:
'Drink your finger it is done
The moon has eclipsed the sun
Eat your ass, spread its wings
The time has come for peanut things'

I used to believe the song 'vdeo killed the radio star' was 'baby dont kill the radio star.' I was wondering why a young baby would want to kill.

I used to believe…

Up until about 2 weeks ago, I thought the line, "I got my first real six-string," (from Summer of '69), was "I got my first real sex dream!" I thought it was a bit risqué!

I used to think in "All My Life" by K-Ci and Jo-Jo it said:

I praise the Lord above
For sending me your love
I'll tear a cherry 'cause

Instead of

I praise the Lord above
For sending me your love
I cherish every hug

I also used to think in the "Blue" song, you remember, that techno one? It said, "I'm blue and I believe I will die..." I'd hate hearing it, thinking, gosh how negative!

I used to believe…

Dancing bean, feel the meat on a tangerine....

Those are some lyrics to dancing queen, not made up by me.

I have two from the late 90s...

1. Three Lions - Jewels remain still gleaming instead of Jules Rimet still gleaming

2. Blue by Eiffel 65 Aberdeen I shall die Aberdeen I shall die

I always thought that this one song was called "yellow superstar" instead of "ghetto superstar". I really believed they were singing about a chinese superstar until my sister told me what it had to be .. they are still making fun of it!

i think its a cat stevens song...it goes like this "there's a bad moon on the rise". my friend actually thought its: there's a bathroom on the right"!! isn't that really sweet??

I used to believe that the Offspring song "No Brakes" went "Tell Ballaws there is something singed always waiting for and waiting for the morning" instead of "Down below, there's a pile of sin, always waiting for and waiting for a warning."

I used to believe…

In the song "Green Grow the Rushes O" I thought - all through my childhood up until in my twenties - that the line 'Four for the Gospel makers' was 'Four for the Golf ball makers' ... never thought to question it . . .

i cant remember the name of the song but the actual lyrics are 'and watch the sun come up on the santa monica boulevard' (i think) and for years i thought it was 'and watch the sun come up in santa clauses couple of bars'

I used to believe…

You know how prissy, hammy, and uppity people sometimes get called "prima donnas?" Well, I, in my genius, used to think that they were being called "pre-Madonnas." If they were any worse, they'd be as bad as Madonna! Now, I want to know how I ended up knowing who Madonna was and what she was like when I was 4, but hey, it was the early 90's... maybe she was just more prevalent then. Still, it amuses me to think about.

"No woman no cry" by Bob Marley. I always used to sing along to that song. My favourite line was - because of its appealing paradoxical poetry - "My fear ist my only courage, so I've got to push on through." A couple of days ago I had to learn it's "My feet are my only carriage". How boring!
