Only recently when I've been listening to ABBA again with my children have I realised that what I thought for years in 'Gimme, gimme, gimme' was "take me to the doctors at the break of the day" is in fact "take me through the darkness at the break of the day".

when Rush, Rush by Paula Abdul came out, my aunt had just had her baby. So in the chorus, when Paula says, "Rush, rush" My aunt thinks she is saying, "push, push". To this day, she refuses to believe otherwise.

That was 5 or 6 years ago when I was 13 or 12, I don't know... but the video clip of the song "Waiting for tonight" by Jennifer Lopez was relatively new and often played on TV.
There were many lighting effects - fast moving brightly-coloured searchlights; Jennifer had brocade on her shiny skin as well, her little dress was glossy and she was looking upwards from time to time, awaiting something special...
... and I claimed to my friend that extraterrestrials were what she expected to meet... in fact... Jennifer was among her party fellows, looking forward to the coming of the New Year.
I hope my friend doesn't remember that - they thought I was weird, anyway...

When I was young (about seven)I thought that I could not be a popstar because I didn't have the ability to sing 2 things at once. Years later, i learned they used a backing track.

That Madonna song 'Get Erotic' kinda came funny to my ears. To me, it sounded like 'Bill Oddie, Bill Oddie, put your hands all over my body'
I used to think that the drums was played several people on the same set; that each one will play on one drum only. Now that i play the drums, i just laugh about it. Imagine seven people playing on one set at the same time, they probably will have to sit on top of each other. Good thing that no one has to sit on top of me!!

there's a song "so happy together" that i used to hear on the radio. one line goes, "the only one for me is you, and you is me, so happy together". until i was at least 11 i thought the line was, "the only one for me is sue, and sue is me, so smack me with feathers." and i still sing this whenever it's on.

That song that goes "Please don't go. Don't go. I'm begging you to stay." when I was little I thought he was saying "Read the book. The book! I'm begging you to say."

I thought the Til Tuesday song said "Books are scary!", rather than "Voices Carry"

when i heard the song "ticket to ride" when i was little, i thought ride was a place. like someone might say they have a ticket to los angeles... when i asked my mom where ride was, and she got a bit confused before explaining it meant she has a ticket to ride the train/bus/plane/whatever. i still think the phrasing is a bit weird if it means that.
