In the song "Oh What A Beautiful Morning" from Oklahoma, I used to wonder what was so wonderful about corn that was as high as an elephants eye. I didn't think that an elephants could have an eye that was more than two inches high.

when i was little, i asked my mom what rap music was, and she told me it was when people added extra words to a song. so i would try to make "raps" by singing the songs i knew (mary had a little lamb, etc) and adding extra words in the middle. it never sounded quite right...

Does anyone remember the 'Chipmunks' singing group? My mother believed they were real chipmunks who had been taught to sing!

I used to think that Aerosmith's "Dude Looks Like a Lady" was "Do This Like a Lady". I sang that my whole life till I saw the real title on this website.

Shortly after David Soul hit the UK charts many years ago, I started hearing about a new type of music called 'Soul' music.
I didn't like his song, but was impressed that he seemed to have fathered an entire genre.

i grew up in the late 80's/early 90's and i used to think that marilyn monroe was still alive and she was the same person as madonna.

In the song "This Land is Your Land" there is a line that goes "From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters." I thought the line was "...to the ghosting waters." I thought it was refering to the white foam in the ocean waves that I thought looked a little like ghosts.
I used to believe…
in the song JUMP by Van Halen I thought David Lee Roth was singing: "I got my back against the wrecking machine" when he really says "... against the record machine"

in the song SWAY (song 2 in 'sticky fingers' album) by the Rolling Stones, i used to think the chorus went: "It's just that needle I forgot you in its sway", when he (mick jagger) really sings: "It's just that demon life that's got me in its sway"

in the song MOVIN' ON UP from the show THE JEFFERSONS, i thought one part said: "Long sweet lips, chewing me baby, ain't nothin' wrong with that", when it really says, "Long as we live, it's you and me baby, ain't nothing wrong with that"

I attended a French-immersion school, so at the beginning of the day we sang the French version of O Canada. I understood most of it, but I didn't get a few parts.
I thought "car ton bras sait porter l'épée" (your arm can bear the sword) was "...sait porter la paix" (can bear peace), which is much nicer, after all.
In the line "ton histoire est une épopée des plus brillants exploits" (your history is an epic of the most brilliant exploits) I thought an "épopée" had something to do with poppies. This went nicely with the "fleurons glorieux" a few lines previous, and had the side benefit of going nicely with the poppies we wore on Remembrance Day (to remember our brillants exploits, naturally).
Finally, I thought "et ta valeur de foi trempée" (and your valour, steeped in faith) was "deux fois trompée" (twice fooled). I figured dear old Calixa Lavallée must have had very definite opinions about the First and Second World War!
i've grown up listening to the beatles, and thus had some interesting beleifs relating to their songs and music, etc.
i always wanted to listen to the beatles when we were in the car, and on one of the songs they use a shaker (looks like an egg and sounds kind of like a maraca). i assumed that there were five beatles. the fifth one played the maracas.
i also thought that the lyrics to lucy in the sky with diamonds went "the girl with colaidis goes by". i thought colaidis was some sort of horrible disease, and when i got older figured it was an STD, and was too embarassed to ask my parents (thank god or they would have wondered about me). i only found out just recently that it goes "the girl with kaleidoscope eyes" when i got so curious i had to look up the lyrics so i knew how to spell colaidis to look it up in the dictionary!
i used to believe that Charles Manson was Marylin Manson's real name. So i used to go around school saying that i was a fan on Charles Manson and i liked him... this was before i was wacked up side the head for saying that to my mom... now i know the difference
