I thought that the lyrics for 'Tequila' by Terrorvision were actually 'I want to kill her, it makes me happy..' and I preferred the song when I thought that! I was in my twenties though, so does this count?

Don't actually know the name of the song - but the lyrics "wide eyed and legless" escaped me for years. I though the guy was singing "my diamond necklace" for years before I realised my mistake!

When I was youn I thought a 78 rpm record could only be played once and was then discarded. I was impressed by the largesse of my father's friend who played his John McCormack records for us.
I used to be sure that Elton John and John Lennon were the same person - I'd heard some Beatles as a little boy, but knew that no one but a Beatle could have sung Rocket Man. It also made sense since Paul McCartney had 'Uncle Albert' out around the same time.
I still hear in the Kate Bush song 'Strange Phenomenon' the words "they made me regurgitate cheese food" for the actual lyrics "they made me read Gurdjieff and Jesus"
I used to beleive the lyrics to outcast's miss jackson went "Im sorry miss Jackson, I never meant to make your doctor cry" (it is actually "I never ment to make your daughter cry")

in the song 'Push It' by Salt & Peppa, when they sang "p push it real good"i used to think it went "poor pussy realgood", and so i hated it, cos i thought it was about someone being horrible to a cat named Realgood. i still sing it my way though.
I remember asking my mother why Madonna was singing about being like a line down the side of a page... Virginity was not the easiest concept for my mum to explain to a 5 year old.
Even so, it still didn't rival my favourite song 'Get that hornet'.

When I was a young boy listening to the Beatles hit song, Ticket To Ride, I always thought they were singing, "She's got a chicken to ride". I used to sing that at the top of my lungs in my dad's car as he laughed, but he never told me the real words. I always wondered, what a huge chicken that must be, and how much fun that ride must have been!

My brother always thought that the line, "My lips are sealed" by the Go-Go's actually said, "Islands of Seals." I still tease him about that.
I was listening to System of a Down's "sugar" on my CD player one day, and my 4 year old cousin started singing along. He completely messed up the lyrics. The first line of the song is "The kombucha muchroom people" and he sang "The paloocha mocha people". I laughed so hard i nearly cried.
