When I was little there was an oldies song that contained the Lyrics "I'm a girl watcher." I would sing it as "I'm a Whale watcher."

When Gabrelle had that 'Dreams' song in the charts (mid 90's) I thought on the chorus she sang 'Dreams can come true, I know baby I've got a liver'. I know some people write songs about a missed family member, I just wondered why she wrote on about her successful liver transplant.

In the Kenny Rogers song, You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille, I always thought the line "four hungry children" was actually "four hundred children". Surprisingly it never occured to me why they had so many children.

Sting's song "Message in a Bottle" somehow got garbled into "Message in a Bottomless Pit". I guess I never really actually listened to it--it sounded far more intriguing that way anyway.

Years ago, my little sister was heard in her room, singing: "I knew our love was just a passing phrase" to Ant and Dec's Eternal Love.
It's obviously 'phase' not 'phrase', and we're NEVER going to let her live it down! What a corker!

As a child i always thought the song Son of Hickory Hollers Tramp was about a boy who's Dad was a tramp!
Wasn't till my 20's when listening to the line "Outside the door there burned a scarlet lamp" i realised he was singing about his Mum!!

I used to believe that the lyric "dancing cheek to cheek" refered to rubbing butt cheeks with another person... school dances were wierd and scary places for me

I used to think that music was recorded by many, many tape recorders when the artists were playing their songs. If it was a really popular album, the artist had to do this over and over again because there were not as many tape recorders as tapes.

Heart's These dreams instead of "perfume on my wrist" I thought they were singing "perfume on my lips".

I used to think the Toto song "Africa" said: There's nothing that a hundred men on Mars could ever do" (It should be "a hundred men or more") I was probably in my late teens before I figured this out. I'd imagine lots of these little green men standing on Mars in spacesuits trying to keep her away from him.

My sister-in-law misunderstood the 80's song Electric Avenue. Actual was "..we're gonna rock on through Electric Avenue and then we'll take it higher." She heard, "We're gonna rock on to electro-tary Newt..."

In Elton John's song Philadelphia Freedom I thought he said "Philadelphia feedom took me knee-high to a man, gave me a piece of momma, daddy never had. I thought the song was sick. Recently I found out it was "gave me a piece of mind, Daddy never had." I think. He makes mind a two syllable word.

When I was 11, my aunt gave me a record player for Christmas. She asked what kinds of records I liked. I told her anything EXCEPT the Beatles...they were druggie music and no good. (I was into Donny Osmond, Leif Garrett and other bubblegum musicians.) With her twisted sense of humor, she included Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. I was disgusted at the way they had stolen "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" from one of my preteen loves...Jack Wild! Imagine my surprise...when I was in college several years later, to discover the opposite!

BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY-QUEEN... Till a year or so ago i was convinced the line "spare him his life for his MONSTROSETIES" was "spare him his life for his...PORK SAUSAGE TEA!" i always wondered what they meant!!!!!!!!!!!!

CCR's Bad moon on the Rise, I swear it sounded liket they were singing, "There's a bathroom on the Right"

I used to believe…

That in the song Rhinestone Cowboy that he was gettin': "cabbage & lettuce from people I don't even know". I never even thought it was odd that people were sending vegetables to a cowboy.

my 2 year old son used to sing 'OH MUM FUM" IT IS TO RIDE IN A 1 HORSE OPEN SLEIGH, instead of oh what fun. it was adorable

My mother had a couple of good ones:

In Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, she thought the line was "a girl with colitis goes by" (not "a girl with kaleidoscope eyes") and the refrain...

"Lucy in the Sky, Look Down" (Elton's version sounded more like this)

and

she thought the Hues Corporation disco song sounded like
"so I'd like to know where, you got the nose job..." (instead of ...."the notion")

Here's a few:

"I'm a Danish, I'm a Danish" as opposed to " Amadeus, Amadeus"...

Kim Wilde:

"pack of crisps in America" as opposed to "we're the kids of America"

Hot Chocolate:

"I believe it milk oils" as opposed to "I believe in miracles"

— Browner von Wightmusic : misheard lyrics

Back in elementary school (and really, just about right up until high school), I used to think that the second line of "Do, a deer" was "Ray, a chocolate-golden sun". That lasted until I was about 13.
