I used to believe…

When I first started school, my class used to sing the hymn 'He's got the whole world in his hands' and I thought the words were 'He's got the whole world, P.E. Sands'. I wondered who P.E. Sands was and why he would be holding the world in his hands.

In Beyonce's song "Single Ladies" are the lines:

"I need no permission, did I mention?
Don't pay him any attention."

For a long time I thought those lines said:

"I need no permission, did I mention?
Duct tape 'em many attentions."

This is not my belief but my 5 year old cousins. I heard her singing Beyonce the other day.. according to her it's 'All the single lettuce, all the single lettuce'

For a long time I thought the song "Roxanne," where it says "Put on the red light," had something to do with driving, especially because it is by the Police and police cars have red lights on them. Now, I listened closer to the first verse, and I think it's more like the red-light-district kind of red light...

In the song 'Sleeping Satellite,' Tasmin Archer sung 'I wonder why, are the seas still dry?'
I used to think she sung 'I wonder why, are the seats still dry?' I thought the song was about a very scary space mission where it was common for people to wet their pants on their seats.
As a kid, I was rather obsessed with people peeing and pooing themselves, especially with fear.

My Dad told my sister and I that he made up the jingle for Pepsodent toothpaste....."You'll wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent." We believed it for years and so did all our friends.

Up until very recently (I'm now 25) I thought the line in the song Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison was ' going down on the old man with a transister radio' .....the line is actually ' going down the old mine with a transister radio'......obviously it didn't make sense when I was little, but when I was a teenager I just accepted what I thought I had heard and came to the conclusion that Van Morrison was just plain dirty.

I used to believe…

"Sunglasses at Night" - real lyrics:

Don't masquerade with the guy in shades
oh no

I just looked up the lyrics when I realized that my idea was probably wrong. I heard:

Don't masturbate with the guy in shades
oh no

I used to believe…

My dad used to listen to 80's music while painting. Once, when listening to the song, 'Voices Carry', I became convinced that the lyrics were...

Oh, I'll
Eat without you
This is scary!

After that, I refused to eat alone for a great deal of time.

I used to believe the lyrics in Lynard Skynard's "That Smell" were somewhat anti-semetic: "The smell of death is a round Jew".

I used to believe…

The song "The Girl is on to you" by Bette Midler has a line
"She's grown much wiser than you realize," which I heard as "She's grown much wider than you realize."

Bon Jovi was a huge hit when I 13 and I used to think that they lyrics to "Wanted Dead or Alive" were...."on a steering horse I ride", my husband informed me 2 years ago that I had been singing it all wrong for 17 years.

Anyone remember this hysterical Bilbo-Baggins-song done by Leonard Nimoy? At one point he says "to help some dwarves get back their gold" and it totally sounds like "help some whores" – I used to wonder what whores were doing in a song about Hobbits, and even now I hear whores instead of dwarves every time!

I must've thought the song " Blue " was written posthumously by Eiffel65 because I was certain the lyrics claimed " I'm blue I was beat up and died... "

I used to believe…

Although I now know the lyrics are " I'm blue ba-da-be-ba-da-bi " in the song Blue, I still can't help singing what I'd always thought Eiffel65 sang... " I'm blue I got beat up and died"

Hearing the theme song every week, I I thought The Who were threatening some kind of extreme supplies embargo on C S I Miami when they menacingly sang " W O N T get food A G A I N ! " .

I used to believe…

There was a song I misheard when I was really little. I don't know the title, but I thought it went like this:
I tut (like king tut) you once, I tut you twice
A walnut cold at any advice
(That's all I remember. I wrote down my wrong lyrics somewhere, and it was at least the whole chorus.) I always assumed it would make more sense when I got older. And it did, but only when I found out it went like this:
I touch you once, I touch you twice
I won't let go at any price
(at least, I think--my hearing's better now, but I've never really looked it up.) I don't think that would have made sense to the little kid me either ;)

I used to believe the words to my dad's favorite song(Mysterious Ways, by U2) were, "Shamu the mysterious whale!" Instead of "She moves in mysterious ways!"

I thought the line "Gina works the diner all day," in Bon Jovi's Livin' On A Prayer was "Gina wants to die of old age,". My friend thought it was that too ...
