My friend Beccy used to think that Dusty Springfield's classic 'Son of a Preacher Man' was actually 'Son of the Pizza Man'.

Up until a few years ago, the christmas song 'Jingle Bells' never made sense to me as i thought the line "one horse open sleigh" was "one horse soap and sleigh". I never understood why there was soap in the sleigh.

I was at a party in the late 70s, and the great old Rolling Stones song "Paint It Black" came on, so I began to sing along. I sang the first line, "I see a red door and I want it painted black," and this guy I didn't know corrected me in utter seriousness, "You've got it wrong! It's 'I see a Rambler and I want it painted black.'"

I used to think that the chorus to "What's New Pussycat" by Tom Jones went "What you looking at, Whoh,whoh,wa-whoooooh...oooo"

I managed to convince my younger sister that the words to the Glen Campbell song "Rhinestone Cowboy" was "...and pole vaults coming over the phone" instead of "...and offers coming over the phone". Why? I have no idea - I was 12 yrs old! She finally found out one New Year when she was about 30 and sang along to the song at a party...

The Pink Meat Song - a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. A very small French vocabulary let me hear "le viand rose" instead of "La Vie en Rose"!

A friend of mine told me he once used to think 'Cotton-Eyed Joe' went "Where did you come from, where did you go, where did you come from, GOT NINE TOES". Somehow the reality of it, "Cotton-Eyed Joe" doesn't really make any more sense.

I used to think Pearl Jam's 'Daughter' was "Don't call me, da da da..." as in rhythmic nonsense, wondering at the same time why it was called Daughter. Kinda of silly considering it's meant to be "Don't call me, Daughter, not fit to..." etc. I guess I'm not really fit to listen to it, huh?

I, too, sang "every time you go away, you take a piece of meat with you."

In "Got my Mind Set On You" by George Harrison, I used to sing it "Oh, God, my mom sat on you", and could never figure out why it was gonna take plenty of money to do it right.

My mom thought that "Never gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley went "Man, I'm gonna give you up, Man I'm gonna let you down, Man I'm gonna run around and desert you." I was 15 when I finally figured out why she always wanted me to change that "hateful" song when it came on the radio.

I used to believe that the song "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" by Elton John was actually performed by the group Kansas, because Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz was from Kansas. I was seven or so, and my mom loved the gorup Kansas, so I just assumed...

A friend of mine used to sing 'Oh my god! There's a snowman' instead of 'All we've got is this moment' to INXS's - Need You Tonight.

He was convinced that these were the correct lyrics and tried to justify this to me by saying 'Well, they come from Australia, so they've never seen snow before'.

In the nursery rhyme that goes "Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream, merrily, merrily, merrily...." I used to think life was a "custard cream" and not "but a dream". I always thought a custard cream life sounded so cool.

I was the laughing stock of my family when i was younger whenever i sang along to my favourite 'Paul Young'...in one of his songs there was the line 'whenever you go away, you take a piece of meat with you' or so i thought! I now know that its actually 'part of me' but i think my version is much better!!!

When I was around 4 or 5, I used to believe that the rock band KISS were really monsters and vampires, not understanding all the makeup and costumes. Often I had a nightmare that they were controlling this vacuum cleaner robot that was chasing me.

I used to believe…

'thats me with the corndog' instead of 'thats me in the corner' was how my friend understood the REM song Losing My Religion

Re: Wolfgang - I thought REM sang ""Call me tarwaychener"
- which would be some kind of Irish name, perhaps, I guess,
but thats what I thought.

But I`m told its

"call me til I waken up"

My ex was convinced the line from David Bowie's "Suffrigette City" was "don't lean on me man 'cos you can't afford the chickens" (as opposed to "you can't afford the ticket")

My sister was convinced Prince's "Rasberry Beret" was "Rags baby her Rags" well, it made sense when you with the second part of the chorus "the kind you find in a second hand store"...and no one could persuade my sister otherwise!!
