I used to think that Terry Hall of 'The Specials' went away for a bit and then came back as Robert Smith of 'The Cure'

We had to do exercises (proto aerobics) in kindergarten to Simon and Garfunkel's 'Sounds of silence'. I was always confused by what I thought was 'And in the naked lad i saw/ 10,000 people, maybe more'. (It's 'in the naked light'.)

I used to think that people could only sing about stuff that really happened to them. Not about things they made up, or stories from the past. I thought this for a disturbingly long time...

When I saw Michael Jackson's video for "Thriller", I read the little caption on the bottom of the TV as "Michelle Jackson." My brother kept on refering to the artist as "he" (ie. "He's such a good singer") which left me in utter confusion, but I thought my brother would beat me up if I asked about this, so I remained silent for about a year.

I also thought that my uncle was in the Beatles. This doesn't make sense for quite a few reasons, such as the fact that my uncle is about 36 years old. I also owned a Beatles album and knew the names of everyone in the band. I guess I thought that he was just a secret member. I think I believed this because he played the guitar and would always sing "Julia" by the Beatles whenever he saw me.

Around 9, 10 I started putting posters of pop stars (Duran Duran, for instance) on my walls. I thought that they had tiny cameras in the eyes and could watch their fans whenever they wanted. This, of course, had me changing my clothes in the bathroom a whole lot!

I grew up in Whitestone, New York. When Glenn Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy" would come on the radio, I would sing "I'm a Whitestone cowboooooy....!" much to the chagrin of my mother.

I used to believe that the song that goes "I am your lady you are my man" went "I am your latest you are my last".

I always thought it was cool that she would love him forever knowing already he would sooner or later find someone new.

I used to believe that the Diana Ross(?) song 'my simple heart' was bicycle hop. I thought it must be a sort of dance.

I seriously used to think that 'Don't cry for me, Argentina' was sung by Queen Elizabeth II. No-one told me this, I just knew it.

An ex-boyfriend tried to convince me that the song "Who are you", by The Who was actually about New Orleans, so the refrain was "New Orleans, new-new, new-new" I, for once, actually knew the correct lyrics and he looked like the dope.

My friend used to think that the line in Alanis Morrisette's "ironic" said "it's like a death-row hard-on, two minutes too late". When told her it was actually "death-row pardon" the line made a lot more sense, but now I can't think of that line any other way

I have always had a problem with hearing lyrics incorrectly. I was convinced that Janet Jackson's "escapade" was about the Ice-capades

I believed for years that the Rolling Stones were singing, "I didn't mean to leave your pizza burning'" instead of "Beast of Burden."

My daughter was singing(i've got friends in low places by:garth brooks) she was singing the part when he says and ruined your black tie affair.she used to say ruined your flat tire.

My good friend use to sing "Hit me with your fist Chuck". The words were actually: "Hit me with your best shot".
I can't listen to that song without thinking of him.

There is a Rolling Stone song that has the words'never be your beast of burden' and my young daughter would always sing this song, except her words were,"never leave your pizza burning"

I used to believe…

to this day i can't understand why diana ross (in chain reaction) sings "tell eddie wearing there is no salvation"...what has he done wrong?
and as a child i used to think a microphone was actually called a 'songma' and why would someone want to have damaged eartha kitts? "look what theyve done to my song ma"

— marie-helenemusic : misheard lyrics

I used to think the lyrics to the Pink Floyd song were "We don't need no Dukes of Hazzard" instead of "We don't need no dark sarcasm" I think it was because my mother wouldn't let me watch the show.

— watching whatever I want nowmusic : misheard lyrics

I used to believe the song "Smooth Operator" by Sade was about a surgeon who liked doing operations, and the song "Do you really want to hurt me" by Culture Club was about someone wanting to hit Boy george.
