I saw Stevie Nicks on TV and thought the microphone was a weird ice cream cone because she had her mouth so close to it.

When I was young, I though the David Bowie song "Suffragette CIty" went, "Awww, wham, bam, bacon ham!" My mom never tried to correct me.

I never could figure out the significance of why the "dogs say godnight" in L. Armstrongs song "What a Wonderful World." Of course finding out the words are actually "dark sacred night" helped my understanding immeasurably.

Rememer the cheesy 'Superman' song that was around in the late 80's? (Comb your hair, brush your teeth, now FLY! etc) Well I taught all my friends the dance with all the actions. Only I thought that 'Hitch a ride' was actually 'Hit your eyes' so I had all these kids at the school disco hitting themselves, and nobody knew why.

Often subjected to Kenny Rogers' 'You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille', I thought the line was:
with four hundred children and a crop in the field (instead of 'with four hungry children' etc)! I thought Lucille was pretty mean too!

I used to think the song "Blow, blow Seminole wind" was "blow, blow seven old men"(I didn't understand oral sex then). Also I used to HATE listening to Happy Birthday when I was little,so all the pictures of my childhood birthdays portray me with my hands over my ears.

Someone once told me that Mariah Carey was a "white girl with a black soul" so I thought she was born in a black family but was white, thus making her feel kind of left out.

There was a song on the radio that was a theme for a news show that went "Oh little darling...Sylvia." I thought it was "Oh little darling...Cereal."

I didn't know Weird Al was doing parodies until I was in sixth grade. I still think his versions are better.

My sister likes to listen to Lionel Ritchie music and , well, the song,"Dancing on the cieling" I thought he was singing,"Oh what a feeling, when she's dancing on my penis"

I used to believe that the song "Jimmy cracked corn and I don't care" said "Jimmy crapped corn and I don't care"!!!!! (I just learned the real lyrics a few months ago and I am 22 :)

I saw a toy that looked like a TV but with mechanical shadow puppet things in it and played music from small record-like disks. I wondered if all records could be played on special record players and you could see the music as well as hear it.

When I was very little I used to believe that if you broke a record little people would come running out and if I was fast enough I could catch them and have my own little living dolls.

My husband and I listen to tons of CDs on road-trips, one of which is by Pearl Jam. Took us a few trips to figure out what the song really was about when we thought they were singing either "Low-Flying Version of a Pelican" or "You're a Fine Version of a Pelican" (it's "Glorified Version of a Pellet Gun"), but we still like it our way.

I grew up in Brooklyn, NY near the Ocean, which had a boardwalk. The boardwalk was fine to walk on during the day, but at night, had an undesirable element living under it (that’s the fear my parents had enstilled in me anyhow). Homeless people and people going there to do drugs (much scarier to a child than an adult). Anyhow, when I had heard that 50's or 60's song "under The Boardwalk" on one of my Dad's radio stations, I thought it was absolutely demented. The Boardwalk!??! A romantic destination!?! That’s crazy!! The "Boardwalk" as I knew it was in the mid to late 70's. The one in the song "under The Board Walk" (under the board walk, down by the Sea, on a blanket with my baby is where i'll be- that one) was written in a simpler many years prior (or by someone who lived in an area that had a more attractive Under board Walk Element). It wasn’t until I was 9 or 10 my confusion on the song and why it spoke of such an undesirable place as a romantic destination (to sit on a blanket with your baby) was cleared!

You know that song from the 80's, I can't remember what is was called, but the chorus sang "Everytime you go away, you take a piece of me with you". Well I swore, being 7 years old, that he was singing, "Everyttime you go away, you take a piece of meat with you". I just didn't understand what it had to do with meat!

In the song "Home On The Range" I could never figure out why the word 'seldom' would be heard as a discouraging word.

One sad and disillusioning day, many many years after my childhood, I discovered that "The Alphabet Song", "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Baa Baa Black Sheep" all have exactly the same tune.

I used to believe…

theres an allison krauss song song that i thought the words were "the child in your face lets me know that you need me" when in reality it said "the smile of your face". everyone made so much fun of me.
