When I was 14 and a big Michael Jackson-fan, I read in a magazine that he was seeing Brooke Shields. In my diary there is a "letter" to Michael about him deceiving me with Brooke....When I read it, I can almost see the tear-prints on the diary-page...!

A few months ago my 13 year old sister was reading an article on the now defunct boy band named Five. One of the member's name was Sean. When I asked her who she thought was the cutest she said "Seen" not realising how to pronounce the word.

Each Christmas we listened to 'Carols by Candlelight'. My father always expressed amazement at how great a composer 'Candlelight' was. For years I believed that every Christmas carol was written by the same person - it did eventually dawn on me that candlelight referred to the candles everyone held while singing.

I told my wife recently that she was singing the nursery rhyme 'Pat-a-cake' to my daughter wrong - She kept singing "Pat it and prick it ad mark it with 'B'...".

As my brother's name and my name both begin with 'S' I was convinced until recently that our Mum always sang the line correctly ie "mark it with 'S'.."

I am now 31 and find it amazing that I had this belief ever since I was a child!.

I remember waiting to leave the house for playschool and the sun was streaming in through the window. The radio was on playing some really syrupy easy-listening music (probably BBC radio 2) and my dad had a really good hi-fi. It sounded amazing, and I believed that it was the rays of sunlight that was making the sound of violins...... I can still remember it vividly.

My sisters & I used to get the lyrics to songs mixed up all the time.
The GoGo's song "Our lips are sealed" we thought was "Alex the seal".
Billy Oceans song "When the goin gets tough" we thought was "Well go and get stuffed".(have a listen to it. It may be right!!!!)
The Australian anthem "Our home is girt by sea" we thought was "our home is dirt fly sea".

our school song had a verse in Latin that said..
Lux Caet Lux Vestra... something like that anyway.... I always thought it said *Lets look at Sandra* She was my friend's sister so I always looked at her. :-)

'til very recently i thought the lyrics to the song 'everyday i write the book' were actually 'everyday i rock the boat', and that the part in madonnas like a prayer that says 'let the choir sing' was 'laugh out quietly'. doesnt make much sense but many songs dont!

I thought the orchestra and singers were little tiny people who could fit in the groves of a 78rpm recording. T'was a long, long time ago I admit.

I used to be afraid of Tina Turner. I saw her as a monster or something like that.

Possibly something which makes most sense for European people...We have a very popular contest here called "Eurovision Song Contest", that has been a big tradition since 1956...Local juries vote each year...But before I used to think it was the SINGERS of if song that decided they votes from the country!

— Steinar (OGAE)music : songs

I used to think the Tom Jones song "A Boy from Nowhere" was called...."A Boy From Norway"! I felt flattered - being Norwegian....

— Steinar (OGAE)music : misheard lyrics

A friend of mine was to write down an old Don Gibson song for me that says Everybody's going out and having fun, I,m just a fool for staying home and having none, and he wrote: I'm just a fool for staying home and have a nun. Much better if you ask me.

Kenny Rogers "Lucille". "Four hungry children and a crop in the field" became "four hundred children had a crap in the field".

I used to think that the lyrics to Crystal Gayle's Don't it Make My Brown Eyes Blue were don't you make my brothers blue.

It made sense to me, and stayed with me for years.
