I used to believe that the kids poem "finders keepers, losers weepers" really said "finders keepers, losers sweepers." I figured that Cinderella had a hard life, and she did a lot of sweeping!
I used to think the lyrics in Madonna's 'Material Girl' was 'Cos everybody's livin in a material world, and i am mom material girl' I just thought it meant she was the leader or 'mother' in this material world of hers :D

When I was younger I didn't have the greatest hearing. I would sing songs with the lyrics I thought I heard and add my own rationale to why they would be saying these things. For instance, I thought Sinead O'Connor's song "Nothing Compares" was Compincon Pears. An exotic fruit she was handing out. "Compincon pears to you!"
I believed this far past the age I should have.

When I was 8, I loved (and still love to this day), the song "Lady Marmalade" by Pink, Missy elliott, christina agulera, maya, and lil kim. well, i never knew waht it was about. Well, one day I was interviewing my family at a reunion with a tape recorder, and as I walked around the house looking for someone to interview, I started singing it. So on the tape, you can hear me singing a little of it. oops!

My sister used to think the Al Green song Love & Happiness said Love will make you mess! She might have been on to something!

When I was growing up in Southern California, there was this used car lot that would play commercials on TV. They always started out with "This is Cal Worthington and his dog Spot." Then the theme song would start. For years I thought the chorus of the song was "pussycow, pussycow, pussycow" instead of "go see Cal, go see Cal, go see Cal". For years I wonder what the heck a pussycow was.

When I was in the 8th grade, there was a
fairly popular girl in school who thought that
George Harrison's song "I've got my mind set
on you" was actually "Wake up I might sit on
you" yeah, she was blonde...(no offense to
the intelligent towheads!)

When my cousin and I were teenagers, she
used to think that the Stacy Q song "Two of
Hearts" was actually "2 poptarts". mmm, yum!
I remember listening to the radio in the car as a child when the hymn "How Great Thou Art" came on. Instead of "how great thou art", I thought it was "I'll break your heart."

While singing Christmas carols as a child, I was confused by "Angels We Have Heard on High." Instead of "in excelsis Deo," I thought it was "in Aunt Chelsea's stable."

When I was really young, I was convinced Michael Jackson lived in a storage room at the local 7-11. This was because the room had a small hole in the door and when I looked in, I saw several cases of Pepsi. This was around the time he was endorsing Pepsi, so I figured he lived in there.

Remember the song from the '60's, "Beauty's Only Skin Deep"? Until I was 20, I thought the title was, "Do You Wanna See Me". I thought I was showing my worldliness and maturity when I sang it one day...that is, until my 31 year old friend laughed himself off a sofa while correcting me.
I used to believe that the lyrics "my son John" really were "mice on John" in the nursery rhyme, "Diddle, diddle dumpling, my son John, went to bed with his stockings on..." I found this to be a disturbing way to sleep. And I still have trouble remembering the real words. "Mice on John" just flows off the tongue... :)

My parents really liked Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. So imagine my mom's amusement when, in the car at age 2, I asked her to put on "Running Down The Drain". It was really "Running Down a Dream", but... I liked mine better, and I still do. =P

Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds
"We´re caught in a trap, we can´t walk out,..."
I heard:
"We call it fraud, we can´t walk out,..."
still sing it like that, too.

For years I heard of singer Waylon Jennings without otherwise being aware of any such name as "Waylon". I thought they were calling him "Wailin' Jennings" and that that must be a nickname acquired because somebody charaterized his singing as wailing.

As a big Culture Club fan, I often get lyrics mixed up.
Take for example Miss Me Blind:
Bet you got a good gun
Bet you know how to have some fun and then
You turn it around on me because
I'm better than the rest of the men
I heard it as:
Bet you got a good bun
Bet you know how to have some fun in bed...
I figured that it was just another song about Jon Moss and his buns.
