I was completely convinced that there was a line in the reggae song 'Now That We've Found Love' that goes 'make nasty soup soup soup, all over the place'. Now that I'm older, I hear the song on the radio sometimes and STILL can't hear exactly what the guy's singing. If I ever find out I'm afraid it won't be as good as mine.

I thought Marc Almond was a girl dressed as a man. From this point onwards I used to hide in the darkest room of the house to listen to the Top 40 every Sunday because I thought my mum would shout at me if she caught me listening to Soft Cell. It made the whole experience incredibly exhilarating and happily I still retain some of that excitement even today when I hear their stuff. He changed my life for ever at the age of 9! Cheers Marc!

I used to believe that at Grateful Dead shows the band would throw acid on the crowd. I had a student teacher in first grade that had told the class she just went to a Dead show and I asked her if she got splashed with acid. Of course, I was thinking about acid of the sulfuric kind, not the LSD kind.

John Lennon was such a hero in my home that when he died, I thought that we wouldn't have to go to school because it would become a national holiday.

When I was little my absolute favorite song was "My Eyes Of Georgia" by Frankie Valli. When someone told me I was singing it wrong and that the words were "my eyes adored you" I was perplexed. "My eyes adored you" didn't make a damn bit of sense to me.

I used to think that Cher really WAS a gypsy and a thief and some kind of egyptian ruler.

The song "Controversy" by Prince came out when I was in elementary school. For the chorus, he just sings the word "controversy", but I used to think he was saying "cunt or pussy". I don't even think I knew what those words meant at the time!

Kenny Rogers tune about 'Lucille'...

"you picked a fine time to leave me Lucille, with four hungry children and a crop in the field..."

I couldn't figure out why Kenny was worried about the crops what with all of his 400 hundred children an all. Heck, with all that help, he should be done in NO time!

I believed that my slow-witted best friend had made up the song "Here comes Santa Claus, Here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus Lane!" because ... well, it was so stupid! She told me it was a real song, but I just didn't believe her.

I used to believe that when people on the radio sang "I love my baby" or "me and my baby" or "hey baby" they were talking about infants. I was very confused by "my baby left me." I believed this until I was 11 or 12.

I was watching a music video with my older sister in which the band members were throwing paint over each other in slow motion. I think it was "Freeze Frame" by J. Gile's Band.

My sister blurted out, "That's not really them though, 'cos they have to sing the song, right?"

My sister was eleven at the time.

This isn't a belief, but an amusing old irrational fear... when I was around 5-6 years old, I was TERRIFIED of the music that would play in the castle levels of Super Mario Bros. (1-4, 2-4, etc.) The bass would make the speakers on my TV vibrate. I used to get all the way up to Level 8-3 using warp zones, then reset the game and play over again. I got so upset when a guest at my house didn't use a warp zone that I ran into my room, cried hysterically, and vomited.

I had a pet canary that died. I cried until my dad consented to having a "burial" for it. He put it in a shoe box and we took it to my mothers flower bed to bury it.I fussed 'til he said a few words(he literally said the phrase"a few words")Then he "sang". Now,my father could NOT carry a tune in a bucket! He,in his gruff voice sang,"fiddle-dee-dee"over and over again to some unknown and off key tune. That satisfied me at the time. Now we recall the event and laugh.I am 51 and he is 81.

In the Beatles song "When I'm 64", the line "..Will you still feed me, when I'm 64?" confused me. As a very small child I had already mastered feeding myself and couldn't understand how Paul McCartney would still require someone to feed him his meals on a spoon at the unbelievably old age of 64.

I used to think Neneh Cherry would fall in love with me and we would have great sex all the time !

When I was about 8 years old, one of my Mum's favourite singers died. She had quite a few of his records. I thought that these records would now become silent. (Don't really know why I thought this as I had worked out that when playing the records, the singer wasn't actually in the record player).
