In the song 'Ironic'...the line "An old man turned ninety-eight"...my boyfriend thought it was "Milkman turned ninety-eight"...and also "Free ride when you've already paid"...he thought was "Creamy white on your roll everyday"...what's ironic about that? HA!

When I was little (about 7), I really liked the Beatles. They just seemed so friendly and easy to like and their music was great. On the other hand, I felt uneasy about the Rolling Stones. Their melodies sounded depressing to me. And because of their song Sympathy For The Devil, I really thought that Mick Jagger was the devil and his band mates a bunch of demons, all cleverly disguised as men. I ended up having some dreams where the Beatles had a music battle with the Rolling Stones. The Beatles would get hurt from being hit by the Stones guitars, but then the Blue Meannies would come to the rescue and turn Mick Jagger and his cohorts into grey frozen pictures. Yeah, I know--I was a little too imaginative for my age. ;-)

When I was 5 years old, my favorite song of all time was The Yellow Submarine by the Beatles. I really thought that those guys learned how to travel in a submarine and actually recorded the song while inside one under water. I guess their sound effects were a little too convincing for me!

Much to my shame I was a Shakin' Stevens fan as a kid, and he had this song called "A Letter to You"..and I spent my childhool wondering what on earth "oh oh you don't know that a tiggarain bar and sent it off in a letter to you" meant, until I heard the song years later and worked out he was in fact singing "oh oh you don't know that I took a rainbow, and sent it off in a letter to you"!!! what a twit....!!!

There's this song by the Animals called "Spill the wine and take that pearl" but because the singer fails to sing intelligably-it always sounded to me like "Do My Tic Tac Toe" and near the end more like "Tickle My Tic Tac Toe" I still can't hear it properly.

One New Year's Eve, my daughter's boyfriend - Then aged 29 - said "We'll be singing Hold Hands Arc tonight won't we"
She said "what?"
He: "You know, where you all hold your hands up in an arc."
How do you get to 29 years old not knowing Auld Lang Sine

Early this year, when Apologize was repeatedly being played on the radio, I kept on hearing it and singing it as "It's shoelace to 'pologize" And I'd ask what "'pologize" meant to all my friends and they'd give me funny looks. Haha. :P I'd also imagine the music video with a bunch of dancing shoelace. :))

When I was five or six, my brother always used to listen to Guns N' Roses, and in Welcome to the Jungle I thought they were saying:
"Welcome to the jungle, we've got lemonade"

When I was a child, I thought that Jimmy Buffett blew out his flip-flop stepping on a PopTart; and that he was vainly searching for his "lost Digger the Dog" (a popular toy when I was small).
I used to think that when people said 'That's music to my ears' that they couldn't hear what I was saying because they had switched a little radio on in their ears and were actually listening to music! I used to think that when you grew up you would have this special power to switch music on or off in your head by just thinking 'I want to listen to some music now'.
I used to think that the Rolling Stones' song that goes "Hey! Hey! You! You! Get off of my cloud!" went "Hey! Hey! You! You! Get off of my clown!" I also thought the song "Who'll stop the rain." was "Who shot the rain?"

When I was about eight years old I heard about copyright laws. I thought that to sing the song in that you had to write to the person singing it and ask permission.

In Danity Kane's song "Damage" there's a part where one of the girls sings:
"My heart is damaged, damaged, damaged"
over & over again.
I heard "I want a sandwich, sandwich sandwich"
I had always thought the song "Material Girl", by Madonna was always saying...
Because we are living in a cheerio word and I am a cheerio girl..
Mama cheerio...Mama cheerio...Mama cheerio world..
Sometimes I still sing the lyrics that way!
