I asked myself if the passage of the song "American Pie" really was ment to sound like " I was a Lonely-Teenage-Drunken-Butt"

I used to think that in the National Anthem the part where they say "dawns early light" was "donzerly light" and that donzer was just a word I didn't know.

A family member thought -and probably still thinks -
"Dirty deeds and they're done dirt cheap" (from Dirty Deeds by AC/DC) was "dirty deeds and the thunder chief."

My husband told me once that when he was a kid he misunderstood a line from the Fleetwood Mac song "Second Hand News".

Real lyrics: I'm just second hand news...
He thought it was: I'm just standing here nude

When my son was small he thought BTO was "taking care of biscuits" instead of "taking care of business."

When I was little I thought that Shakin' Stevens was Elvis' nephew

i used to think "black dog" by led zeppelin started out like, "big-legged momma, see the way you moo."

As a kid I'd never heard the word "accord" before when I first heard it in the last verse of "The First Noel", in the lines:

Now let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord.

The only guess I could then come up with for the meaning of "accord" was that it might be short for "accordion". I thought that a neat image, singing Christmas songs with accordion accompanyment. But I puzzled as to why it said "one accord", as if something would be wrong with Christmas singing to the accompanyment of more than one accordion. Perhaps accordions are loud enough that two would drown out the singing, I thought.

i used to think that the beach boys song Barbara Ann said " ba ba ba, ba ba barim...." until just a minute ago when i read this site....no matter what u might think, not all honors students are smart :-)

I have been Pokemon-obsessed since I was six and I still am. When I was seven my mom used to play this tape of 80's music and I became convinced that all the songs were sung by Pokemon, and I would imagine what Pokemon were singing it and give the groups all Pokemon names. Because of this I kept begging my parents to put the tape in whenever we got in the car (it annoyed them after a while). Eventually the tape got lost.

For fifteen years, I honestly thought the kid's gospel song "Special Specialities" was called (and sung) "Special Special Yellow Cheese." My Dad picked this up one day when he was driving us to church and laughed about it clear through the sermon.

In the song, "Welcome to the Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance, there's a line that goes, "The bodies in the streets," but I swear it sounds like, "The bondage in the streets."

I thought the line "always look at the bright side of life" was supposed to be "always look at the right side of fly". My mother language is not english so i didn't see the grammar being wrong and always wondered why you should look at the right side of flies and not the left.

When we used to sing the hymn "O happy day" in Sunday school I used to think that the line "he taught me how to watch and pray" was actually "he taught me how to wash and play" - as young child seemed to make sense....

In the song Billie Jean, by Michael Jackson, in the chorus he says "Billie Jean, is not my lover, she's just a girl who claims that, I am the one, but the kid is not my son".

I thought he said "Billie Jean, is not my daughter, she's just a girl who claims that, I am the one, Billie Jean is not my son."

First she's a daughter, then a son!

I used to think that in Britney Spears' ''Hit Me Baby'' song where she sang ' I'm in too deep ' that it was ' Im ment to de (sounds like be) '

I could never understand why none of her producers or anyone corrected the word de to be. Strange.

I've started to sing in English well before I actually learned to understand it, so here go some of the things I found out a few years too late:

- In Bachman-Turner Overdrive's "Hey You" it's
"You should have tried now, oooh"
and not
"You shouldn't drive now, oooh"

- In Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" it's
"So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skies from pain" and not "paint" =)

and
"Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?", not "vein"

- Whitesnake's "Full For the Night" was only ever "Fool For Your Love"

- From Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah":
"The baffled king composing Hallelujah", well, I never did believe "the baffled kiss" made sense anyway.

When I was 8 i was convinced that Queensryche's song Jet City Woman was about me, that i went back into the late 70's and me and the singer, Geoff Tate had fallen in love.

i used to think that fallout boy - sugar we're going down which goes "dont mind me im watching you two from the closet wishing to be the friction in your jeans, isnt it messed up how im just dieing to be him?"said "tell mummy im watching you two from the closet, wishing to be the friction in your jeans, is it the next stop? oh im just dieing to be here!" i only realised the truth wen my workmate told me after i sang it while serving on tills in front of about 5 customers!

i also took a lot of convincing that will smith sang switch! i had no other suggestion of who it was, but it wasnt will smith

and it took me ages to understand that madonna in "like a prayer" and kelis in "milkshake" were using lots of imagery and not speaking literally! wasnt helped by the fact that kelis' video is in a milkshake place!

When i was in all region choir in 8th grade, the boys did a peice that said " i travel the muddy muddy banks of the low road" and i thought they were saying "the bunny bunny bangs" I started busting up during our concert and i got in touble.

I used to think the song "Mustang Sally" was about the astronaut Sally Ride, because the only part I knew was the chorus "ride, Sally Ride."
