the other day i was singing We're Not Gonna Take It in English class and in an attempt to shut me up my friend asks me "Who sings that?"
and i say "Twisted Sister."
so she goes "Good, then leave the singing to her."
and I was like "Uhhh it's not a girl, it's a full male band..."

You know that old song 'How Bizarre' by OMC? Here's the actual lyrics to a part of the song:
"Cruising down the freeway
In the hot, hot sun"
When I was little I was convinced they said this instead, and always sang it this way:
"Cruising down the freeway
In my hot croissant"

Midnight Oil / Beds are burning. I didn't listen to this song for a long time, and I forgot artist, title, everything. I trie to look it up from the lyrisc I thoutght I remembered - well it took quite a while, because instead of "How do we sleep while our beds are burning" I typed "How do we dance while our pants are burning" At least, i got the burnig part right...

me and my best friend are on the track team and sometimes when we're running long loops or 'fun runs' around town i would start an obnoxious verse of Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi.
One day when everyone actually sang along, and we were singing specifically the part "oh oooh we're half way there, oh oooh livin on a prayer" (it's motivational) we heard me friend sam singing "oh oooh livin on a prarie" which i guess make sense...you can live on a prarie but the entire track team stopped to laugh at her.
later she admitted that she used to think that the jingle for folgers coffee "the best part of waking up is folgers in your cup" was "the best part of waking up is roosters in your cup"
she says because their emblem includes a rooster...i'm not gonna giver her that one, that's just wierd

when i was a little kid in primary school we would have to sing the Australian national anthem at assembly every Monday morning.
I guess they didn't do such a great job with teaching us the words, because until the age of 10 i was absolutely convinced that the line "Australians, all let us rejoice" was actually "Australians all love ostriches". As a child I didn't even think it odd enough to question why we were all professing our love for a native African bird every week.
I was about 10 or 11 when I first heard of Marilyn Manson. This was also the first time I'd heard of the name Marilyn, so I thought it was a man's name. A little later, I heard about Marylin Monroe, but when I saw a picture of 'him' I was shocked to see 'he' was a WOMAN! I was like, "a woman called Marylin!?"

The LMC vs. U2 song 'Take Me to The Clouds Above'.
I used to sing, "Take me to the power bus."
I used to think that "Here Comes the Hotstepper - Murderer" - went "Here comes the Hotstepper - Girl A Rock"!!!
And that it was "Boogie with the night" not "Boogie Wonderland"
And many more!

When I was young I thought the chorus of Paul Young's 'Everytime You Go Away' went:
Everytime you go away,
You take a piece of meat with you
(actual lyric 'You take a piece of me with you')
I used to think that while it was very odd that his girlfriend would take meat with her whenever she went away I still couldn't understand why it upset him so much. I figured when I was older I would understand

In the early 1970s, a teenaged babysitter brought an album by "The Guess Who" over to the house. I was old enough to read, and upon studying the name on the album cover, demanded to know what group this was. She answered, "Guess Who", to which I replied, "I can't guess! Tell me!"
It took her quite awhile to get me to understand that this was a name of a group...and for years afterward, I always mixed them up with The Who.
I always loved the song "Puff the Magic Dragon" but I also thought it was the saddest song ever, and sometimes it would make me cry, but I liked it anyway.
I always thought the little boy Jackie Paper died and misheard the lyrics "Painted wings and giant rings make way for other TOYS" as "Painted wings and giant rings make way for other BOYS", since Jackie Paper had died.
I continued to believe this for a very long time and was very relieved to learn out the truth.

The Ratt song "Scene of the Crime" has a part that says "You broke the law in the first degree, cold blooded bitch goin' out on me". I always thought it said "You broke the law in the Krispy Kreme".
It made sense, I figured he saw his chick with some other dude out in the doughnut shop eating doughnuts!
I was always a very good speller as a kid, except for one day as an 11-year-old when I attempted to sing along to Aretha Franklin:
"R-E-S-V-E-C-T."
I thought she was just naming off random letters.

You know the Beach Boys' song "Surfin' in the U.S.A."? Well, I knew lived in America, but I used to wish that I lived in the USA "instead" so that I could go surfing.

Years ago there used to be a TV show called 'Minder' and they released a song about one of the characters - Arthur Daily. I thought the lyrics were 'Arthur Daily, little dodgy baby', it was actually 'Arthur Daily, little dodgy maybe'.

Here are some lyrics and words that I have heard wrong:
Forever in Blue Jeans was The Reverend Blue Jeans
Night Fever by the Bee Gees: Sweet City Woman was Two Headed Woman; I sort of knew that one was wrong
Sara Lee Commercial: I thought it was Nobody Does It Like Sara Lee, not so, it is Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee. Horrible grammer.
