When I heard "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", I always heard "He knows if you've been bad or good" as "he knows if you've been batter good". I thought of cake batter at first, but then I reasoned that "batter good" was an odd term for "very good".
I used to believe that the video clip are realized in one time and the singers are singing with to the music

As a kid, when a person was described as being prima donna, I assumed they were saying pre-Madonna. I thought how cool she must be that the arrival of Madonna was used to describe people as either cool or lame.

A lot of people think the song Bad Moon on the Rise is Bathroom on the right but I got to see this illustrated live at a Berkeley Folk club by the Celtic Rock band Boiled in Lead. They were introducing themselves and the club at the start of the concert and they said where the exits were, ect. and then they all broke into tune together and sang "by the way there is a bathroom on the righy" which was correct. It was very unexpected and funny and thr audience broke up laughing and clapping.Later they did one better by playing Bad Moon on the bagpipes! It was a great concert.

When I was a child, I used to believe I was really really good at singing. One day, a friend of mine said "You're tone-deaf!". Hard times!

There's a folk song called "Bay of Fundy " by a singer called Gordon Bok.It's a sea song about how dreary and dangerous this bay in Canada is.There's a line about how thr singer would like to " spend his days on the Labrador" and never see old Fundys shore, as in the area of that name in Canada.I heard the song for the first time when I was about seven, and I was baffled.Tohe only "Labrador " I knew of was the dog ( Labrador ).So in honor of the song I drew a picture of a large black dog with a tiny person on its back and presented it to my mother. She looked really confused and asked me to explain.Annoyed, I said "you know, like the song". To clarify things for idiots, I added a balloon above the tiny person saying "I'm on the Labrador".Mom finally got it and started laughing like crazy. It took several years, and an Atlas, before I finally got the cause of the hilarity. Then I just felt embarrassed.

I used to think that chorus to the song "Tiny Dancer" was "hold me close now Tony Danza." This was until I was about 16.
I used to believe that all the child actors in movies were just mini adults because I thought that it was absurd that children could have jobs! I believed this until I was about 9.

As a child I really liked the song "Tik Tok" by Ke$ha and one of the lyrics was "Boys trying to touch my junk". I asked my cousin Isaac what "junk" meant and he told me it meant breasts. I believed this for years.
I thought "round yon virgin" was "roundjun urgent" in Silent Night and had no clue what that even meant... Also in Joy to the World when it said "righteousness" in one of the later verses I thought it was just some really weird long word.

When I was a kid, I thought the musical Mamma Mia did songs from the A*Teens (the teenage version of Abba)

I thought Elvis was a genre.
I went to Church camp when I was ten, and we sang a song called "Put Your Hand in the Hand of the Man from Galilee". I thought it went "Put your hand in the hand that spilled the water" ( it actually was actually STILLED the water)and the next verse was I thought ;Put your hand in the hand of man who climbed the tree" ( actually "calmed the sea".
I thought the line "round yon virgin" in Silent Night was supposed to be "round young virgin" (I wasn't sure what a virgin was, but I knew it meant Mary). I thought it was a commentary on Mary's post-pregnancy body, kind of like a polite way of saying she was fat.

In the song "Jet Airliner" by Steve Miller Band, the line is "big old jet airliner, don't carry me too far away" but what I heard was "big old Jed and Alina...." and in my mind these were two giants who were going to be kidnapping someone.
