i used to think all songs were exactly one minute long, and it wasn't until i was nine that i realized that wasn't true.

I used to believe…

When I first heard music by the Who, I was intrigued and I asked about who they were. She talked about the basic history of the band, with the guitar-smashing, Pete Townshend's tinnitus, the exploding drums, and all that stuff, but the person in the band she talked about the most was Keith Moon, the drummer. I assumed that he sang, because Eric Clapton, the musician we listened to the most, sang as well, and the most "important" (which, since my mom mentioned him, Keith obviously was - a case can be made for it in any case, but I digress). I believed this until I was about 11 and one of their songs came on the radio and I remarked how amazing it was that Keith could play so well and sing at the same time.

It seemed that everybody in the car except for me knew that this wasn't true. D'oh!

A few years after that, I bought the album Who's Next, which started an album-buying binge during which the Who became my favorite band. But sometimes I still remember back before I didn't know the names of ALL the band members and confused Keith Moon with Roger Daltrey.

This memory became even funnier when I heard him sing "Bell Boy" in Quadrophenia and discovered he really couldn't sing very well. And even funnier when I bought his solo album and realized he couldn't sing worth a damn!

I thought the lyrics to 'You gotta be' would say 'You've got a budweiser' instead of 'you gotta be wiser' Hee hee.

I used to believe…

Whenever I heard the song 'You gotta be' by Des'Ree, I thought she sang 'You've got a big bag, you've got a big boat, you've got a big Visa, you've got a big heart, you've a big tuft..' instead of 'You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold, you gotta be wiser, you got a be hard you gotta be tough' I had always thought it was the song to the Visa credit card commercial!

I used to believe…

HELP! In the bruce springsteen song i'm on fire when he goes "at night i wake up with my sheets soaking wet and a freight train runnin thru my head" is he talking about the fact that he wet the bed???

I used to think the part in Madonna's "music" that goes, "music makes the bourgeiouse and the rebel..." actually went "Music makes the bushwa plebes have the rhythm..yea" I didn't know what "plebo" meant back then but now i do, so that makes it alot more funny now..
lol.

i used to think air guitar was the same as electric guitar, i just thought air guitar was ran by air.

I thought in drop it like it's hot it went like this:

When the pits in the crib mom
(drop it like its ho-ot
drop it like its ho-ot
drop it like its ho-ot)

And all the baywatch get aachoo
Pork and like it's hot
Pork and like it's hot
Pork and like it's hot

And if Nivea get a attitude
Pop it like its ho-ot
pop it like its hot
pop it like its hot

got the roley on my arm
and i'm pulling Sean Dunn
And I run the best sh*t
Cause i got it going on

Actually it goes like this

When the pimps in the crib ha?
drop it like its hot (DILIH)
When the babes try to get at you
DILIH
and if a n**** get a attitude
DILIH
I got the roley on my arm
And i'm pouring Chandon
And all the best,
Cause I got it going on

In that Alanis Morrissette song that goes like "It's not fair.....to deny me...of the cross I bear that you gave to me, you you you oughta know!" Yeah its called u oughta know well anyway when I was five i heard: "It's not fair, to the night air, of the cross eyed bare that you're naked me, yoodle yoodle yoodle otter no!" I thought it was about a girl whose boyfriend made her stand outside in the cold one night holding an otter and yodeling.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I used to sing along to the James Blunt song "You're Beautiful" thinking that the lyrics, "My life is brilliant" were "My life is bread" and "She could see from my face that I was
flying high" were really "she could see in my face I was fucking high." Whoops!

I used to believe…

In the Take that song (originally by the Beegees) 'How Deep Is Your Love' ..there the line "And you come to me on a summer breeze
Keep me warm in your love and then softly leave
And it’s me you need to show
How deep is your love"

i thought "and its me you need to show" was " and you really need to shutup!!!"

When I was about 4 years old I thought it was such an amazing coincidence that all singers could actually sing.

I used to believe…

When I was young, I thought the line from the (U.S.) national anthem, "the dawn's early light," was actually "the dawnzerly light." I couldn't for the life of me figure out what dawnzerly meant.

I used to believe…

When Micheal Jackson's song "Man in the mirror" was out, there is a part that goes, "As I turn up the collar on... my favorite winter coat, this thing is blowin' my mind!"

but "I" heard... As I burned up the flower board.. my favor went to cord!" (of course at the time on One Life to Live the big deal was Max and Tina or Cord and Tina... I thought Mike favored Cord! LOL

But even worse, I have this friend - Gloree, who thought that Micheal Jackson's Rock with you - was about Sylvester Stallones "Rocky II" so instead of singin, "I wanna rock with you... all night", she sang, "I wanna Rocky two... all night!"
SHE's stoop!

I could never understand why Billy Ocean felt he had to warn everyone about religious sex (not sects!) with his lyrics to "Love really hurts without you"
To this day I still hear "Baby, Love really hurts with a Jew!".

I used to believe…

At about 6 years old, my parents took me to Disneyland. One of the attractions they took me to was a short 3D film called Captain EO, starring Michael Jackson. I remember sitting there watching, and as soon as he appeared, i remember asking my mother, "who is she?" My mother told me, thats not a woman, thats a man. I can't explain how confused I was, yet i can understand that today.

I used to think Kenny Rogers had 400 children and a crop in the field. Rather than 4 hungry children.

I used to believe…

Okay up until like, 4 minutes ago, I thought the theme song to Full House went: "the milkman, the paper boy, even MTV." But apparently it really goes "the milkman, the paperboy, evenin' TV. Oopsie. my bad!

I used to believe…

My parents used to watch a lot of All in the Family reruns when I was around 6-10 years old. This is how I heard the lyrics:

By the way glad miller played
Songs that made the hit parade,
Guys like us we had it made,
Those were the days.

And you knew where you were then,
Gals were girls and men were men.
Here's to we could use a man like Herbert Hoov'r for our den.

Didn't need no world's best date.
Everybody pulled his weight.
G.R.O. la sal-man grate.
Those were the days.

I was willing enough to belive that Herbert Hoover had been a great conversationalist, and therefore someone you'd want around your den; and it seemed reasonable that an old fart like Archie might find the modern dating scene not to his liking.
But what was a "sal-man grate"? After much thought, I came to the uneasy conclusion that it was something you put over the ducts in your house to keep out the salamanders. Later, I toyed with the idea that "Salmangrade" was some small, obscure Eastern European state, but that wasn't quite satisfying either.

Later I found out the real lyrics:

By the way Glen Miller played
Songs that made the Hit Parade,
Guys like us we had it made,
Those were the days.

And you knew who you were then,
Girls were girls and men were men.
Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again.

Didn't need no welfare state.
Everybody pulled his weight.
Gee our old LaSalle ran great.
Those were the days.

when my brother was little, he used to watch the old fashioned peter pan that was basically recorded on a sound stage. there was a song that the pirates sang, and he always believed the lyrics were as follows:

"a yo ho ho a went to show
to mere the steak
so-
it's dangerous to eat"

and he would sing this over and over and over with a fake hook on his hand pretending he was captain hook. i can't believe i still remember the song.
