I used to believe…

As a teen in the 90s, I loved to listen to 70s rock - and one of my favorite songs to sing was "Big Old Fat Carolina" (Steve Miller Band's, "Big Ol' Jet Airliner"). A year later when I found out the actual lyrics, it wasn't so fun to sing anymore... heh.

The theme song of Grease, instead of your the one that i want, i thought it sounded like 'your the wobbley dog'
I thought she'd find that a bit insulting, i would.

I always thought that "Staying Alive" by the Bee Gees was sung by Aretha Franklin.

I have a couple of them...
My brother thought that 'Black Whole Sun' by Soundgarden was 'Asshole Sun'.
He also thought the Franz Ferdinand song 'Take Me Out' when the singer says, "I'm just a crosshair," he thought they said, "I'm just a cross-eye."
And this is my belief, in the song 'Not Your Bottle' by the Dandy Warhols, when the singer says, "Passing out hits of LSD." I thought he said, "It's my LSD." To my embarrassment when I sang that out loud!

My Ex-wife when she was little used to believe that the name of the song was "Only Baloney" instead of " Only The Lonely."

I used to believe…

When my sister and I were young, my parents listened to a lot of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Well, for years we thought the words to "Bad Moon RIsin'" were "There's a bathroom on the right" instead of "There's a Bad Moon on the Rise"! My mom just let us sing it that way and didn't correct us until we were older because she thought it was funny!

Lyrics to Prince's "When Dove's Cry"

Original: "Maybe I'm just like my mother, she's never satisfied..."

What I heard (and sang alound): "Maybe I'm just like my mother, she never sat inside..."

I used to believe…

The TV show The Jeffersons was popular when I was about 4. Here are the lyrics my little mind thought were being sung:
Well we're movin' on up,
To Pizza Hut,
To a pizza apartment in the sky,
Movin on up,
To Pizza Hut,
We finally got a piece of the pie.
Beans don't burn in the kitchen,
Beans don't burn on the grill,
Took a whole lot of her and him,
Just to get up that hill.
Zowie up in the big league,
Guess my turn is next,
Along with sweet lips,
It's you and me, baby,
Ain't nuthin' wrong with us.
Hey, we're movin' on up,
To Pizza Hut.........

Somebody else submitted something about what their mother thought the lyrics to "I Predict A Riot" (Kaiser Chiefs) were.

Well, my mum thought they were "I've got Tourette's".

i used to think shanks and bigfoot said sweet like chocolate sauce instead of sweet like chocolate boy... and a xmas advert on tv that said holidays are coming i thought it said hundred days are coming duhhhhhhhhhhhhh oh well
:)

I always thought that in the Ataris' version of Boys of Summer, he said," I can see you, your pants can shine in the sun, you got your head torn back and the side-wrestling's on, baby". (whatever the heck that meant).
Original: "I can see you, you're brown skin shining in the sun, you got your hair combed back and your sunglasses on, baby."

I used to mix up Stevie Wonder and Stevie Nicks.

I had trouble remembering the difference between Billy Joel and Elton John, too . . . .

I used to get Def Leppard and Led Zeppelin confused because they both had purposly misspelled names.

My mum used to think, until about a month ago that Kaiser Cheifs "I predict a riot" was actually "I put it to rest!" I reminded her a couple of weeks ago.

In " my heart will go warm" by celine dion, instead of "I Believe my heart will go warm" I thought it was " I Believe the hot dogs go warm!" It was very strange, i wiondered why they piocked it as the theme tune before i found out the real words.

I used to believe…

When I was young, my mom listened to the oldies station on the radio a lot. I grew up believing that all the old songs were very recent. It didn't even occur to me until later that there other styles of music, and that the songs I'd heard weren't necessarily the most popular ones at the time.

I used to believe…

As a kid I thought that the lyrics to "Bette Davis Eyes" (Kim Carnes) went, "She's got every day massage." Like the woman of the song got to get a massage every day.

Also, I swore that Blondie was a man... especially when listening to the song "Tide is High," even though in the song she says she's "not the kind of girl..." etc. I couldn't figure out why a man would be singing those lyrics because the voice OBVIOUSLY (to me) belonged to a man.

I used to believe…

When my cousin was younger, she was convinced that that song from Hot Chocolate, instead of "I believe in miracles" was "I believe in Malcolm! (where you from, you sexy thing)

My mum still often sings along to those words when the song comes on !

I used to think the lyrics to Elton John's Tiny Dancer were "hold me closer Tony Danza."
