In the song "Let's get it on", I seriously thought they were saying "candy on Crome".

When I was young I used to believe the Y.M.C.A. was some kind of weird hotel because they sang "It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A.You can get yourself clean, you can have a good meal,
You can do whatever you feel..."
Why would you "stay" at a gym? You "go" to the gym and "stay" at a hotel.
And I didn't know the Y serves meals???

hall of fame

I thought the song Controversy by Prince was not saying "controversy" but instead "count your blessings". I like my version better

In the song "Jingle Bells" I thought the lyric "one horse open sleigh" was "one horse soapin sleigh." For years I wondered what the heck a "soapin sleigh" was. I figured that maybe they added soap to the bottom of the sleigh to help it move along? I don't think I figured it out until I was in my late 20s.

I had been listening to the song "AFRICA" by Toto since I was about 9. well for some reason I could never get what he was saying in the chorus. I asked around and people said he was saying "I guess it rains down in Africa!" It didn't make a whole lot of sense either. like why wouldn't it rain there? I started singing that but it still didn't sound right. And it didn't make sense eith I finally found out it was "I BLESS the rains down in Africa!" when I was 22!

I used to believe…

Eurythmics song of "right by your side", I used to think that it was a song about a man in love with a 12 yr old boy because it sounded like a man singing and I thought the lyrics was like this " I want to be right by your son!!!" XD oh gosh that one part gave me a very bad thought and I was freaking out whenever I heard that song.

One of the first songs I learned in nursery school was "My Bonnie is over the ocean". We used to sing it with the English lyrics even though none of us little children understood the meaning, and so I always imagined a pony on a ship crossing the ocean.

At the end of the song, the chorus goes "Brought back, brought back, oh brought back my Bonnie to me" - in my version, this became "Brotbeck (= bread baker in Swiss German), Brotbeck, oh Brotbeck my pony to me". Makes sense, right?

I used to love the song All Star, by Smashmouth. I always thought some of the lyrics were "She was looking kinda dumb with her finger up her bum, and the shape of an elf on her forehead."

The children were never given service books in the choir. We learnt the service by heart. The first time I was given a service book I was shocked that in the Eucharistic prayer it said, ' It is meet and right so to do.' I had always thought it said, '...meat and rice.'

I thought in the Transformers theme song were it says "robots in disguise" it was saying "robots in the skies" which I thought was weird because not all of the robots can fly!

I used to be scared of the song "Man-eater" because I thought it was literally about a woman who hunts down men and eats them.

I used to believe that Madonna's "dress you up in my love" was "dress you up in nylon."

I used to believe that when I listened to my Walkman, the bands were actually playing a live show for me. So I would pause and fast forward all the time, thinking that I was making the band work hard.

I used to believe that the line "Wo-oo we're half way there" in "Living on a prayer" by Bon Jovi was "Oh-oh half-laid egg", and every time the words "make it" were used, that they were "naked", for instance "It doesn't make a difference if we're naked or not", and "Take my hand, we're naked I swear!". Even now, I cannot hear the song without indefinitely hearing "Half-laid egg.", It just seems to sound closer to that than "Half way there."!

I used to believe…

When Justin Bieber's very first song came out I thought his name was Justin Beaver because that's what it sounded like on the fuzzy radio. And I thought he was female because the singer sounded female at first, so I thought it was a girl named Justin. But when I found out he was a boy his voice no longer sounded girly to me.

I wasn't into rock music until this year. In may I heard a song by The Who for the first time I thought was called Teenage Wasteland. Over the summer and fall I kept hearing reference to a song by The Who called Baba O'Riley that was supposed to be one of their most iconic songs. I could never understand why I never heard it on the radio, and wasn't quite curious enough to look it up online. Yesterday I looked at the recently played list on my local radio station's website to find out what another song I heard was, and I saw that Baba O'Riley had played while I was listening. My jaw dropped for an entire minute when I realized that "Teenage Wasteland" was really Baba O'Riley!
