When we were kids my Dad always sang along with all the songs on the radio. We mostly listened to 50s/60s music, and he knew every word & every doo-wop in every song. I was amazed. When I asked him how he knew so many songs, he said it was because he used to sing with the Platters. I was so proud! I told everyone! Noone ever disputed me, so my belief continued for a few years. Then, one day, I saw a commercial on TV for a compilation album & they showed a picture of the Platters. They were all black! (our family is white) I said, "hey, Dad. They're all black." He said, "Oh, I think I was sick the day they took that picture." I said, [gasp] "YOU weren't in the Platters!!" Up until that point, I really believed he was. We still laugh about it!

Up until a few weeks ago I believed that the reason that Michael Jackson looked so strange was because his plastic surgery had melted under a rather hot spotlight on stage. Apparently plastic surgery isnt actually done with plastic.

In a song by Michael jackson he sings "your burdens I will bear" I thought he sung "your burgers are the best". I couldn't understand why he was talking about burgers!
I used to think that in 'From Me To You', by the Beatles, John and Paul sang:
"I've got arms that long to hold you, and keep you by my side"
"I've got lips that long to kiss you, and keep you satisfied. Wooo"
Which is fine, because they do. However I interpreted the first line as
"I have arms that are long enough to hold you..."
And then I accepted the following image:
"I've got lips that are long enough to kiss you..."
I'm glad I'm not a kid anymore
i thought that in the song "holly jolly christmas" by burl ives, the line "oh, ho, the mistletoe, hung where you can see." was really... "oh, ho, the mistletoe, hum where you can sing."
why would you hum where you could sing?

Back in highschool I remember a lot of students singing along to the song "Blue" By Eiffel 65. They always sang it "I'm blue if I'm green I will die" Rather than "I'm blue da ba dee da ba die"

As a child, I heard the song "Bristol Stomp" by the Dovells. I assumed then that the title dance was named for the only Bristol I then had heard of, the one along the Tennessee / Virginia border. After growing up, I learned that the original (and probably most famous) Bristol is in England. I decided I surely must have been mistaken, and that Bristol, England was surely the dance's place of origin. Eventually I learned that I'd been wrong both times. The actual place referred to in the song is Bristol, Pennsylvania.
I used to think that the words to a country song, instead of being the correct version of "Boot, scoot, and boogey." was "boot scoot and booger."
I grossed my mom out and couldn't figure out why:)

this was my sister: in mr. brightside by the killers she thought the words were "chelsea, turning 16 tuesday" instead of "jealously, tuning saints into the sea" she thought the entire song was about this chelsea girl.
I used to think that the song "Just like white winged dove" by Stevie Nicks was "Just like the white window"
