Jamiroquai's song "canned heat" actually says "Hey got canned heat in my heals tonight baby" but me and my best mate used to sing "ive got candy in my heels tonight big ben" and we had awful dance moves to go along with it where we would point to the heels of our shoes...eeek

Until my late teens, i believed the air guitar was a kind of electric guitar powered by air. But I was ashamed to ask my friends, they'd think I was not "in" if I didn't know this cool instrument.

This is a true Mondegreen:
"When the jasmine sets afire, the faceless man's relieved."
Years later, I discovered that it was "When the jazz man testifies, the faithless man believes." It made a little more sense then.
I was sitting next to my nephew, who's 8, at dinner and I could hear him singing very quietly to himself. When I asked him what he was singing, he sang louder : the bee gone gone, the bee gone gone. I was totally bewildered until I caught on to the tune. It was sonny and cher, the beat goes on. He flatly refused to believe me when I told him he had the lyrics wrong :) It stuck in my head for days, the bee gone gone, the bee gone gone ... Uh oh.

I used to believe that Elvis died from eating too many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. My mom told me that, and I believed her for quite awhile.

Even as a kid I liked classical music, but was convinced that all operas were written in Spanish. Well, I knew they weren't in english, and what with Carmen's bullfighters, Barber of Seville, Don Giovanni, Don Carlos and others it seemed logical. I could never work out "Figaro" though - Figaro was Gepetto's cat in the Disney film "Pinocchio", and never sang a note in any language that I could remember.
At least I did better than the little lad who, when asked by his operatic parents what his favourite aria was answered, "The one about elephant's ears". This puzzled them for ages until they heard "La donna e mobile" from "Rigoletto", by a singer also with poor knowledge of italian - catch the last line -yep, easily taken for "elephant's ears"!

Up until I was about 12 or 13 I thought this was strange. Jimi Hendrix didn't seem to be gay to me but I thought well musicians could say anything they wanted. I just thought it was weird that he would say 'scuse me--while I kiss this guy' ??

When I was in grade 2 my french immersion class had to sing "o Canada" in french every morning. I was supposed to sing "Car ton bras sait porter l'épée...." ("because you know how to carry a sword") but i always said "Carton bas et rose, le poupée..." which really means "Low pink carton, the doll.." I never knew why a doll had helped in founding our country. I assumed that the first Canadian flag had been drawn on a big piece of pink carton. I only found out i had been saying it wrong in grade 7.

Reading another belief on here just reminded me of this. I used to think that 'Feed the world, let them know it's Christmas time' was in fact 'Heathrow, whooooooa, let them know it's Christmas time'. To go with this was a bizarre mental image of aeroplanes celebrating Christmas..........don't ask!

Until recently, I didn't know who Mick Jagger was (he's an actor and film producer and does some other stuff). I always thought that his name was actually McJagger, so it was obvious to me that he must be a rapper, because they always have weird 1-word names. Good thing I never tried to start a conversation about McJagger's new rap songs...

Remember Xanadu, that movie that came out in the 80's? In the song they go: "Xanadu, Xanadu, now we are here in Xanaduuuuu", at 8 I went with my teenage sister to the movies, thought they sang "Xanadu Xanadu, show me your ears".

In Paul Simon's song, "Still Crazy After All These Years", I used to think the line, "And I would not be convicted by a jury of my peers" was "And I would not be caught dead wearing jewelry in my ears."
