when i was around 6 or 7, i thought there was a difference between normal people dying and pop stars dying, i was sure they weren't really dead because they could still sing on the radio and such.. i probably figured their disembodied voice stayed alive forever.

When I was little I asked my dad why Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder wore sunglasses when they were blind. His reply was "because they don't have eyes".

I pictured empty holes in their heads where their eyeballs should be.

My mom found out what I believed when I was in my early 20's and laughed. I felt pretty stupid.

When I was younger, I used to think that Michael Jackson and "The Artist Formally Known as Prince" were the same person, and no one bothered to tell me different!

I'm pretty positive most kids who were five years of age in 1996 would've probably agreed with me that I thought Hanson was actually a girl band. They sounded like girls, looked like girls, and it was just so...girly. My mom told me they were guys and I refused to believe her. I don't remember when it all changed (maybe when I saw them on TV one time and two of them *Isaac and Taylor* had deep voices) but I still thought Zak was a girl.

I thought that the name of singer "Dinah Shore" was "Dinosauer" and that she must be awfully old.

I used to believe M.C. Escher was a rapper. Much to my surprise, he was an artist, and died before rap was even invented. I only thought he was a rapper because of "M.C."

Before I ever saw photos or video of the Beatles and had only heard their songs on the radio, I believed they were all robots, because I never heard intakes of breath when they sang.

When i was really little, like three, i saw Cliff Richard performing on tv. He was wearing a really shiny, sparkling white suit and and for some reason this held so much appeal. So i told my mom that i was going to marry Cliff Richard one day and he would wait for me. I really believed that he would... Good thing the Peter Pan of Pop never aged hey? Needless to say i am still ripped off by my entire family and my boyfriend, 18 years later.

My dad told me that the Beatles asked him to join and he said 'No, Ta.' I believed this until quite an age, probalby because my sister had quite an obsession with them and my dad sported a 60s style George Harrison style beard!

I used to believe that Brian May of Queen was the presenter of "Magpie" (he wasn't - it was lookey-likey Mick Robertson).

I also used to believe that the voice from inside the radio was a person actually in there and I remember trying to squint through the lit-up dial and see them. (It was a big radio, OK?!)

Shortly after David Soul hit the UK charts many years ago, I started hearing about a new type of music called 'Soul' music.

I didn't like his song, but was impressed that he seemed to have fathered an entire genre.

I thought that the REM song that has the lyrics in "calling trying to wake her" actually said "calling cheryl Baker" I was totally convinced that REM had made a song about the ex Bucks Fizz singer

When I was a little girl, I watched a musicvideo of Kate Bush. After seeing it many, many times, finally my sister said; Don't play it anymore, she will be tired of singing it!
So my sister thought that Kate Bush had to sing the song every time we played it =)

Once when I was 5, I had a friend sleep over at my house and that night my mom watched a show about Michael Jackson's life. We saw that in the older pictures of him he was black, and in the newer hew was white. We for some reason thought that Michael Jackson was dead, so we came up with this theory that when you die, if you are black you become white. My friemd and I are both white, so we thought when we died, we would be black. I didn't find out what really happened until I was 8.

When I was little (about 7), I really liked the Beatles. They just seemed so friendly and easy to like and their music was great. On the other hand, I felt uneasy about the Rolling Stones. Their melodies sounded depressing to me. And because of their song Sympathy For The Devil, I really thought that Mick Jagger was the devil and his band mates a bunch of demons, all cleverly disguised as men. I ended up having some dreams where the Beatles had a music battle with the Rolling Stones. The Beatles would get hurt from being hit by the Stones guitars, but then the Blue Meannies would come to the rescue and turn Mick Jagger and his cohorts into grey frozen pictures. Yeah, I know--I was a little too imaginative for my age. ;-)

I believed that i met the Spice Girls when i was a baby and that when i got older they wanted me to come on tour with them. For years i thought that they were going to come and get me to sing with them. My dreams were shattered when i asked my mom " Didn't the Spice Girls want me to sing with them when i got older?" and she just gave me a crazy look and said that i never met the Spice Girls.
