I used to believe that the members of the band, "Kiss" had their bones replaced with chains. Sounds like a pretty invasive surgery to me now.

When I was about six, Michael Jackson's 'Earth Song' was in the charts for ages and the video was on Top Of The Pops every week. Right near the end of the video he is wearing tattered clothes and holding on to two trees. Every week I could've sworn the clothes were becoming more tattered - I thought he re-made the video week on week!

For a while, I used to think that Led Zeppelin was the name of a person that fronted the band of the same name. I was set straight when I asked my father if Led Zeppelin was still alive.
Also, during my childhood, I used to think that Elton John was straight, but boy, was I wrong.

I used to believe the Beastie Boys were a boy band. Well, the name sounds similar to Backstreet Boys!

I used to think Michael Jackson was Michael Jordan. When I finally saw who Michael Jackson was, I was flabbergasted.

Ages ago I saw a cinema leaflet that said they had a discount for UB40. It meant what they now call 'Jobseekers' allowance', but I thought it meant the reggae band. I figured the owner of the cinema must have been a fan and thought if he offered a discount he might get to meet them.

Key fact: we live near Lubbock, TX, it being the major town for shopping/etc. for us. My mom got me into Buddy Holly's music from some tapes we'd listen to in the car. I was about 8 or 10 or something, and they were talking about the Buddy Holly festival/center/statue on the news one day, and I asked my parents why they would have a festival for him HERE. They then informed me that Buddy Holly was from Lubbock, which I thought was nuts because up until then, I assumed that all famous people were from/lived in New York City (TV stars), Hollywood (movie stars), or Nashville (recording artists).

I thought that Captain & Tennille was just one man, named Captain Antenille. Whenever I heard my mother talk about "him," I thought that he must be from France if he had a last name like that!

When I was about eight, my uncle told me that he used to be Elvis. I was so excited, I told my class for show-and-tell.

When I was about 8 (9 years ago), i used to think on 'stars in their eyes' that the impersonator went through the smoke and then, straight away, the real star would come out and sing.

It didn't even click when 'Elvis' performed.

And, until I was 14, I thought Led Zeppelin was just one person, like Van Morrison.

When I was real little, I thought that they probably didn't have music in Communist countries because everybody never talked about that.

When I got a bit older, I knew they had music in those countries but probably not rock and roll. They just listened to classical music, jazz, and folk music.

I started reading about famous pop stars from the Eastern bloc a few years ago on the net and began to listen to their music...boy, that changed everything and I have heard some amazing stuff from those places!
(Could you imagine a band singing the Beatles in Croatian in 1964, no doubt?)

I thought up until I was about 14 that Prince and Micheal Jackson were the same person. You gotta admit they both look/act really weird.

I thought Scott Joplin and Janis Joplin were related. Two musicians with the same last name - it made sense!

Watching Paul Simon doing his thang with the African Mumbasa band, I asked my mother (because Mother's know EVERYTHING) why he was the only white man amongst the black men.
Being a little sick of my constant questions, my mother replied "he's a £!£$NG albino".
I actually believe Paul Simon was an albino till the age of 14.

One time in an old Saturday Night Live episode, I saw a cute guy singer with long hair, he was very attractive...
Later I found out it was Patti Smith.
Oops.

Now I know that she's a girl!!

My dad told my Stevie Wonder was Ray Charles' son. I realized the truth when I was 12 years old and learned that blindness wasn't hereditary!

I see now!
