I believed that there were no such thing as music groups, a singer was one person with background music and that was it.

To this day, I confuse the singing voices of black women with those of black teen/preteen boys. When I first heard Salt N Peppa, I though they were boys, and when I first heard Tevin Campbell, I thought he was a woman.

I convinced my boyfriend that Carly Simon and Mick Jagger had an affair and had a baby and that's why he sang back-up on "You're so Vain." To this day, he gets mad when I tease him!

Up until like last week (i'm 19) I though Led Zeppelin sang "Pour some sugar on me" instead of Def Leppard and was surprised at the people who would tell me Led Zeppelin was one thier favorite bands, but my boyfriend cleared that one up quick...lol

Growing up in the sixties, when Bobby Vee and Bobby Vinton were both popular singers, I thought all the while that they were the same. I thought that Bobby Vinton had become so popular that they could call him simply "Bobby V." and everyone would know whom they were talking about, But, in fact, I DIDN'T know whom they were talking about until the late 1980s or so, when I finally realized that they were two different singers.

When I was in middle school that boy band Hanson had just came out. Their big hit was that 'Mmbop' song. I used to hear it on the radio all the time and thought it was a girl group singing because they sounded like girls. It wasn't until a friend brought the CD to school talking about how hot they were that I realized they were boys. I didn't feel stupid, however because my other friend who was with us said "I thought they were girls!" Me too!

When I was a kid my mum had an old stereo which looked like a wooden cupboard, When we put on old vinyls she always told us to close the front. I believed that when the music was playing the band appeared on top of the record and started to play. So many times I tried to take a peek but as I opened the door they would disappear because they were shy, thats why they made records and weren't on tv, while the other bands that were on tv didn't make records.

I used to think that the group Gladys Knight And The Pips was Gladys Knight And The Pimps.

I used to be sure that Elton John and John Lennon were the same person - I'd heard some Beatles as a little boy, but knew that no one but a Beatle could have sung Rocket Man. It also made sense since Paul McCartney had 'Uncle Albert' out around the same time.

When I was little I used to think to become an actor or singer they would drive past your house and see you fake singing and ask if you wanted to be a singer or actor!

When I was younger I had a habit of getting my pop stars mixed up. Elton John was head of the Beatles, Pink Floyd sang "Get this Party Started" and even though everyone else was confused, I knew Marilyn Monroe was a boy.

I used to mix up Stevie Wonder and Stevie Nicks.

I had trouble remembering the difference between Billy Joel and Elton John, too . . . .

I used to believe that the band Hawk Nelson was just one guy! It really sounds like one person, and I would always think how horrible it was that anyone would name their son Hawk. It wasn't until a few weeks ago, when someone asked me if I like that band. I tried to convince them it was just a singer...but I was wrong!

Remember the commercial back in the day that had Michael Jackson dancing in the street. Well when I first saw it, I was convinced that he was a girl. My Grandmother and my mom tried to tell me it was a guy, but no matter how much they argued with me, they could not convince me otherwise. I believed he was a female for most of my childhood years.
