In fifth grade my aunt took my two cousins and I to a Hanson concert. We had a great time watching our favorite band perform. When our older highschool age cousins would tease us about liking Hason, we would always replay with "well at least they write and play their own music".
Eight years later, at my cousin's graduation party, we were reminiscing about the concert, and my aunt went on to tell us about how there was a band playing behind the stage, and the Hanson brothers were only playing a few cords, must of the music was from the guys behind them. At 18 it crushed my heart. My cousins and I felt like such fools for never noticing.
I used to believe that at Grateful Dead shows the band would throw acid on the crowd. I had a student teacher in first grade that had told the class she just went to a Dead show and I asked her if she got splashed with acid. Of course, I was thinking about acid of the sulfuric kind, not the LSD kind.
I used to believe that Marilyn Manson was a extremely scary woman!
I was about four when Jim Croce died. I had been given a single of "Bad, Bad, LeRoy Brown" shortly before he died, and played it all the time. After his death, I didn't understand how come I could still hear his voice on the record player if he was dead.
I saw Stevie Nicks on TV and thought the microphone was a weird ice cream cone because she had her mouth so close to it.
When I was seven, I really liked John Denver. His music inspired me so much as to persuade my parents to buy me a small cheap acoustic guitar.
One day I heard one of his songs on the radio. I believed that he was in the radio studio there performing the song. I did not understand that they used recordings for broadcasts. I believed that this was how all radio operated. I supposed that since DJ's are live, then ...etc.
I even pictured John Denver riding the elevated to the station (I live in Chicago), guitar in hand, straw hat on head. I believed this despite the fact I owned a couple of his records then.
And to think that at that time I made fun of my sister for believing that my parents grew up in a monochrome world...
I used to think that John Mellencamp and P. Diddy (or Puff Daddy or watever) were the same person. I have no clue why.
When I first read Mandy Moore's biography on the internet, I thought that Mandy Moore's grandfather was Roger Moore.
i used to think that ozzy osbourne was a hockey player, and i thought michael jackson was a basketball player.
I used to think the Back Street Boys were black. I also thought Seal was a boy band.
Up until about oh say 2 years ago (when I was ten) I thought Led Zeppelin was The Rolling Stones. Not by their songs, just how they looked. Never told anyone, then my brother showed me a picture of Jimmy Page and I thought 'Wow..that guy's HOT!'
I used to believe Michael Jackson when I first saw him was a white woman.
I'm sure that I'm not the only one, but I thought that the Partridge Family was an actual family band, and I couldn't understand how they could live in a regular neighborhood and go to public school. Wouldn't they get mobbed for autographs? And didn't they make enough money for a better house?
I was very young.
I thought for a long time the singer Phil Collins was Asian (his voice just sounded Asian some how and I had never seen a picture of him)
I never thought to question this one; it just made sense... I thought Pink Floyd was a person until I was 16. Don't tell anybody. :)
I thought Stevie Nicks was a guy until I read this page. Wow, I wonder how much other stuff I'm not aware of.
when i was little i used to think that my cousin was michael jackson(their names sound the same) well....turns out that all of my friends went home to their parents and told them that i was michael jackson's cousin...
I used to think that the Buffalo Springfield were Tom Springfield (Dusty's brother)'s band, and that Rick Springfield was his son. I was proved wrong later!
I used to think Buddy Rich was called Buddy Rich because he was my dad's friend, same with Buddy Holly.
I used to think that my dad was the bass player for AC/DC. I don't exactly remember how I came by this belief, but I think it has something to do with the fact that my mom and I were listening to AC/DC when I asked her what band my dad was in.
