When I was little my older brother would listen to the song "Iron Man". In the beginning of the song, a metallic voice says "I.. AM... IRON MAN!" That freaked me out so bad... I always envisioned a huge metal robot crashing through the window and killing me.

when i was a little kid, I thought the song "Afternoon Delight" was about a picnic. I still remember sitting in the back of my parent's Chevy Nova, singing "skyrockets in flight, afternoon delight!" Years later when I heard it again I was SHOCKED at it's real meaning!!!!

When songs came on the radio, adults would say, 'Oh, that's by so-and-so.' I was amazed they knew so much, and scared that knowing who sang what songs was something you were forced to memorize in school.

When I was 6 or 7, I used to think that the Hall & Oates song "Sara Smile" was written just for me....In my mind, there was no other explaination for the inclusion of the name "Sarah" into a song.

One day, when I was about six, a Destiny's Child song called Jumpin Jumpin came on. Where it says, "Cause it's 11:30 and da club is Jumpin, Jumpin" I imagined people owning a secret club in a treehouse jumping up and down. When I asked my sister(who was 16 at the time) why they were singing about a treehouse, she just laughed.

One day in the car Aretha Franklin's song "Respect" was on the radio and my mom said that it was the song by the svatsas(yiddish word for black people) For a little while I thought that the svatsas was the name of the group who sang the song.

The Beatles song "Ticket to Ride....." When we were kids they would advertise on the radio win "Ticket to Ride....".....I was totally confused....I finally asked my mom where do they win tickets to? She explained it was a song! DUH!!!!

This isn't so much misheard as misunderstood. I thought the line "And hamsters turn on frequently" from Simon and Garfunkel's "At the Zoo" was talking about robotic hamsters that could turn on and off with a switch. My dad told me the song was about the Central Park Zoo in New York City and I always wanted to go to New York to see the hamsters turn on and off.

Someone else here believed that they had written "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer". Similarly, I believed I had written "76 Trombones" from 'The Music Man'. This would be an easy error for a kid to make since that march tune is rather sequential and generic-sounding. However, I was 21 at the time.

when i listend bryan adams "summerof '69" the first time, i thought the lyrics was like "..... get my first real sex dream", but naturally it means "...........get my first real six-string"

I use so be so afraid of the song "Black Hole Sun" by SoundGarden. I would run out of the room everytime that song was on and the video for that song made it worse it made be thing that the sun was going to explode and that everyone was going to have messed up head.
