When I was little I believed that if you wished on a dandelion and blew all the seeds off with one breath your wish would come true. I hopped all around the yard picking dandelion-fuzzy-seeds things and taking a deep breath and wish for a unicorn...consequently our yard had a alot of dandelions the next year and no unicorns were around to eat them

When I was little, like many kids, I was told to stay in our yard, and not wander too far. I thought this was to make sure I wouldn't go too far and fall off the edge of the world. But I thought I was really smart and thought, what about the kids in the yard next door? And the house next door to that, etc? Obviously they had the same rule and the edge of the world wasn't in their yard, since they hadn't fallen off. So it would be perfectly safe for me to go past our yard, and into theirs. I wondered when our parents would be smart enough to realize that, and let us go farther.
I also thought that once you DID get to the edge of the world, instead of a drop off, it was a wall with a door, and if you opened the door you'd find a dark space filled with wolves. I wanted to go exploring so I could find that door at the edge of the world, but I was too scared of the wolves.
I used to think, every time I saw the moon, that the sun was behind it and shining around and through it. I only realised when I was about 13 that if the sun was behind the moon the other half of the world wouldn't have any day time!
The Sky is Dirty
When I was very small, we lived in southern California, where it never rains in the summer - just months and months of cloudless, blue skies. The interval between spring and fall rains was long enough that a 3-year old might not have developed enough memory retention yet to recall last time it rained.
So, one day when I was just about 3 or so, I awakened to a dark grey sky. It was cold, which felt strange and uncomfortable. My mom dressed me in a little sweatshirt she retrieved from the cedar chest. I did not remember the shirt; yet I knew it was "mine". It was strangely familiar despite the weird smell from being stored away with moth balls. It was also too small, and mom had to tug pretty hard to get it over my head.
I looked out the window, scowling at the dark grey sky and gumbled, "The sky is dirty!" My mom glanced at me and remarked absently the sky was just cloudy. I didn't get the concept, which left me feeling puzzled and even more grumpy.
Later, I conferred with my best friend about the ugly dirty sky situation. We decided to do something about it. We ran into the house and dragged a high chair and a tall stool out into the yard. We thought climbing on top of the high chairs would put us up plenty high enough for what we needed to do.
My mom looked out the window and saw us on our perches, stretching up and waving dish towels at the sky. Puzzled, she came out and asked what we were doing. We informed her that the sky was dirty and we were going to clean it up! "Ah", she said, and disappeared back into the house where she cracked up with secret laughter. Alas, even the high chair didn't put us up high enough and the sky remained dirty! Later, when it started to rain, I was just amazed to see water falling from the sky. Will wonders never cease?
I used to wonder that if man wanted to reach the stars in rockets, why didn't he just go up at night? Duh!!!
My father convinced my little brother it was "Mount Reindeer" not Mount Rainier.

I used to think that if you stared real hard at the wind, you could see the angels.
I used to believe that long ago the dinosaurs got tired from migrating, laid down and died. That is how the Rocky Mountains were formed.
When i was little i would call Bread Lardlard, and, living on Lake Superior, where the waves are often rather large, i would see the rollers and think it looked "Lardlards" and i was afraid to go into the water because i didnt want the bread to smash into me. those were the days.....
I use to believe that where I saw the sky end is where the world ended and it was only just a few miles.

I used to think that all rivers could only flow south. Because of the curve of the Earth and gravity, of course.
I used to believe that a night turns into day after a man (like a night watchman) comes with his big flashlight and kinda point it towards the dark sky and use it like an eraser so it becomes a day. So used to pretend iwas asleep and wake up in the middle of the night and look out my window for the man with the flashlight and fall asleep until my eyes no longer could stay open.

When I was young and looked into the night sky on a clear evening, I believed that I was looking at God's Light Bright after he removed all of the colored pegs.

When I was like, 8 to 9, i saw a drawing of "plantet X" which was a purple planet with a big red X on it.
I believed it looked like this for years.
I grew up in Indiana, where it was rather cold in the winter time. I was about 4 or 5 when I heard on the radio about the wind chill factor. I didn't understand the term and remember asking my mom one day why keep telling us the temperature at the wind shield factory.
When I was six or seven, I used to watch the tall cottonwood trees waving against the cloud filled sky. I thought the trees waving caused the wind to blow.
When I learned in school that the middle of the earth was filled with lava, I demanded that my mom buy me new shoes with thicker soles to be as far away from the lava as possible.
