I used to believe that when we road in our open boat over the ocean and we hit a hard wave, that the boat was hitting the bottom
(ground, floor of the ocean.) When I got over and discovered the really true terror of fathoms and fathoms beneath me, I couldn't ever get on a boat again that crossed that 26 miles to Catalina.

I grew up in a very rural area, so tornados were a very common thing when I was younger. In the evening, from my parents home we could see the lights in the city when it got dark outside. There was a huge car lot in the city and it had the huge lights that would
circle into the sky forming a tornado shape, so it could get peoples attention. It definitely got my attention just about every night when I would run inside my house to tell my parents a tornado was coming. At first I had them running to the windows to look outside but eventually they drove me past my " tornado " one night and proved to me, it was only lights in the sky.
When i was a child, my father told me that when we were having thunderstorms, it was actually a baseball game in heaven. He said that the thunder was a coach and an umpire arguing and the lightning was cameras.
When we used to go out in the car at night i would look up at the moon and wonder why we never left it behind. I figured out that there was a man in the moon driving it and following us.
Now my mum had previously told me that the moon was made out of cheese, so i obviously came to the conclusion that he ate the cheese to stay alive which is why the moon has holes in it..........i still believe there is a man in the moon to this very day, i mean how else would you explain it?? ;)
my gran told me that when there was thunder, god was having his coal bunker filled; when there was lightning, god was opening his fridge; and when it rained, god was taking a shower.
obviously, this led to me constantly looking out for large lumps of coal, food and soap falling from the sky!
when i was around 8 years old my aunt told me that lightning is something which occurs when Mother Mary is very happy... because of which there used to be fire works. so lightning was actually supposed to be when they were fireworks
When I was about 5 or 6 and even later, I used watch the clouds during a mild windy day, believing that they were trasforming into creatures of different shapes and forms for the purpose of having a party. I thought they were talking to each other and I wished so much to know what they say! So silly!
When I was little I thought that the stars were the light of heaven shining through rips in the sky (think the fabric of night). When the pieces of fabric from the rips fell to earth they became violets. Good violets became amythests when the died. What's the difference between a good violet and a bad violet? Beats me.

I used to believe that the moon was actually America. My mum told me it was a long way away and you had to get a plane there, which went stright up!
When I was little I used ot be really scared of rain and thunder until one day my mom told me that the thunder was the angels in heaven bowling an that the reain was tears od joy when they won! I swore by that!
Because the way my Dad described humidity as the amount of moisture/water in the atmosphere, I used to think that if the humidity level reached 100% we would be all covered in water, flood-like, and drown.
When I was little I used to believe that when you watered the flowers, you had to pour the water on the flower part of the plant. That was because where the flower was, I thought that that was trhe "mouth" where it takes in water. I believed this until age 7 when I learned that plants get their water by soaking it up from the roots, not the flower!
I used to believe that the clouds are like swimming pools. They are large white boats full of water in the sky.we can swim in them, and when we finish our swimming and go back to earth by plane. The water in the large boat leak from these large boats, they are rains!

I used to believe the whitewash on waves was actually whale pee.
I thought the moon was a beach ball hung up in the sky by a cup hook, and that when my father came home from the Army (World War II) he would climb up a ladder and unhook it so I could play with it. I was incensed at my mother for laughing at me when I informed her that Daddy would get the moon down for me when he came home.
As a little kid, I didn't understand why adults got so frustrated if it rained right after they washed their cars. What's the problem? It's just water. I hadn't considered the concept of mud.
I grew in the Santa Cruz mountains of California. From our house I could see the sunset into the pacific every evening. Often it would be foggy in the mornings. I used to believe that the sun was going into the ocean and turning the water into steam, hence the fog.

my sister told me that when the moon was waning that neant the air was eating the moon. i never could figure how the moon became whole again.
When my lil brother was a tot he wandered away from our beach picnic....slowly wading himself into the water...up to his head....when rescued he replied, "THAT WATER TRIED TO DROWN ME"...
When I first tried to visualise the infinity of the universe my imagination insisted on a limit. My mind insisted on conjuring up an image of the universe contained in a vast cylinder of newspaper! Outside the newspaper was plain white light but I got dizzy when I tried to imagine where that went to.
