When I was little and there was a full moon clearly visible, that the shaddows on the moon represented a lady and gentleman sitting having a meal at the dinner table.I thought that the taller person on the left looked like a king with a crown on his head and the shorter person on the right also wearing a crown, must be the queen. Even now when I see a full moon i still can see what I imagined as a child. I guess now that fairy tales and food must have featured largely in my life. They still do, as I like happy endings and a full stomach.
It often rained when I walked home from school and I would get drenched. However I wouldn't have got so wet if I hadn't beleived that the faster I walked the faster (and more) that rain fell. I would walk really slowly believing that the rain would would virtually stop. Sadly, at 21, I still catch myself slowing down if it starts to rain!
When I went on an aeroplane for the first time at 5 years old I believed that the clouds below us was the sea. I had never seen the sea before. I thought it was beautiful.

When I was little, my older cousin lead me to believe that when it rained, someone had made God upset, and he was crying! And when it snowed, for some reason, God was tearing up his bed-sheets!

I used to believe…
That the rivers stopped flowing at night!
As a child I used to believe that the hills had giants buried under them, thats why they were big I used to spend many hours when we were in the car going on holidays, working out from the shape of the hill which was the giant's legs, stomach, head etc.
Every time I went into town with my mother we would walk past a store with a large (aspidistra) plant in a hideous green pot displayed in their window.
"What an abortion!" My mother would exclaim.
Many years later (and ago) when training to be a nurse, the teaching matron asked us to raise our hand if we knew the meaning of the word 'abortion'. Mine was the only hand up.
I explained it was a big green plant pot. . .
There is a very nice shrub called a Snowball Tree.
As a child I believed that it had poisonous fumes at night so you had to be careful not to fall asleep under it.
I used to think thunder was caused by clouds banging into each other. (I'm still not absolutely sure this isn't true!) I also believed that the wind was caused by the trees waving their branches around--and am amazed to see how many other people believed the same thing!
When I was a child, I used to lie on the hill behind our house and watch the steam engine trains go through the valley, and the big puffs of black smoke form dark clouds. I believed that is how all dark clouds were formed and argued with the teacher (and everyone else) about it. I KNEW, because I saw it.
When I was little my friends and I all believed that when it thundered, God was bowling, and when it snowed, God has spilled His sugar bowl
I used to believe that when it rained that ment God was really sad about something.
When I was younger, I was deathly afraid of thunder. Well, my mom always told me that it was my Aunt that had recently died and all the angels in Heaven bowling.
When I was little I used to be terrified of thunder,so my grandmother would tell me it was my grandfather up in heaven tending his apple orchard,as his wheel barrow became too full the apples would fall into the clouds hence the sound of thunder! I always tried looking for him when I was travelling on the plane but thought he must be sleeping.

When I was very little, I used to think that sticks that had fallen from trees and were lying on the ground were a hard, non-smelly version of dog poo.
I USED TO BELIEVE THAT THE CRESCENT MOON (HALF MOON) WAS THE THUMB NAIL OF GOD.
When I was about 3 or 4, I use to believe the sun and moon followed us while I was riding in the car.I though the "moon character" from the 1980's McDonalds commercial actually lived on the moon and I thought that's wear they were taping the commercial. I thought cars talked and had feelings...I played school w/ my toy cars, assigned them names and everything.
