I used to believe (and still do?) that the earth hadn't been molten and retaining a centre of moltem metal, but had merely caught fire on the outside and a thin layer of molten earth remained. This was borne out by Jules Verne, in his 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth' book, So maybe I'm right?

I used to believe that the forest about 2 blocks from my house was North, because it looked like there was more snow there. It was south. I still get confused.
I used to believe that I was the only one who could see the clouds move because God was trying to talk to me.
When i was little, a class mate of mine told me that i would go blind if a snowflake hit me in the eye. Consequently i spent most of my younger years walking around with my eyes closed if it was snowing. I missed out on a lot of good snowballs fights and get severe reprimands from my parents as a result of this!!
I was convinced by my older cousin that if I put moss in the letterbox then when you had enough the mailman paid you $10.00 We were 8 and 6 at the time.
Needless to say my mum always wanted to know why some idiot kept putting moss in the letterbox.
On the way home from the shops, my brother and I used to walk through the local woods while our mum walked on the pavement. There was a large tree near to the end of the wood which had a root sticking out of the ground. There was a hole in it just big enough for a childs foot so everytime we got to it we'd put a foot in and proclaim, 'Thank you tree god for letting us pass'. I'm not sure if we thought this tree really owned the woods or not and if we didn't thank him he'd make us get lost, but we always did it.
When I was little I used to love snow and I made myself believe that if I looked outside when it was snowing, the snowfall would stop. It happened once and I told my mum about it. She said it was just a coincidence, but I am still reluctant to watch the snow fall... and I am 23...

When the weather was bad outside, I used to copy what I thought my dad was saying, and say "let's go out and brave the elephants", instead of elements.
I used to belive that god was bolwing and every time thunder hit god got a stike
When I was small, I thought that the moon was a big cheese, and when there wasn´t a full-moon I thought that a giant had bitten of a bit of the moon/cheese.
When I was a kid I was always told that God is in heaven. Of course I then drew the conclusion that if he is there he also sleeps there. So I used to think that when it rained it was God who peed in his bed during sleep.
I used to believe that Thunder was made when clouds banged together,
believed this right up to the first year of senior school when I told
everyone my 'knowledge' in a Geography class and got laughed at.
A friend of my parents was visiting when I was about 5 years old. It was raining outside and he had been out jogging. My mother remarked that he was barely wet from the rain, and he said jokingly that he had been running zigzag between the raindrops. I didn't get the joke, and for at least a year (maybe a few years) I thought it was actually possible to run in the rain and not get wet by running zigzag.
When we was young there was a belife that the Nothern Light would take you away i you where dressed in white or used somthing with the color white. At cold days during the winter in nothern Norway you see the Nothern Light. So every time it was cold and clear weahter we become so afraid that we did not leave the house, or kept us so close to the house as possible. If we were outside we ran back to the house as fast as possible when the nothern light was seen in the sky.
When I was younger, I thought my dad could tell the future because he would say its gonna rain tommorrow and it would. Little did I know, is that he saw the news and the weatherman....
When I was a kid, I used to believe that windmills were what caused the wind to blow. silly me :)

My brother, Myles Kidd , had a mad childhood belief that if you touched lichen, it made your skin peel off!?!
He got really upset if he saw the stuff.
I used to believe the sky was a big inverted bowl, and the horizon was where the "bowl" touched the land. We were not allowed to stray any farther than the curve in the road in each direction because my parents said "there was nothing to see out there anyway". I promised myself that when I was big enough, I would walk past the curve in the road, find the edge of the bowl, and lift it up to see if there was anything on the other side.
And then one day I had PROOF that the world was as limited as my parents said! My visiting aunt and uncle promised to take me for a drive in their new car. Their promise was forgotten until the very last minute, but I was determined to have my ride, so they drove me to the curve in the road, turned around, and came back. When I asked why, they said because the road didn't go any further than that. I was too short to see over the dashboard, so I fell for it. Heh.
