I used to think that the sound that you hear when a jet flies over you was made by the clouds moving in the sky!
When I was about 4 some one told me the moon was made of cheese and I believed it until my teenage years. Because I never really questiond it too much. I also never understood how the space men brought back moon rocks if it were made of cheese. So I conviced my self that part of the moon was made of rocks and part is made of cheese. I figured out the truth Around High school.
I used to believe that you could be arrested for picking a Golden Poppy in California because that was the state flower. My friends and I firmly believed this and once in a while we would pick a poppy from our own yards to show how "bad" we could be.
One day my dad was picking at the bark of a tree while waiting outside somewhere and told him he should stop and he said it was good for the tree. So I peeled all the bark of a tree in out front yard thinking I was making it healthy. I got spanked for it.
My dad told me that we were going to have a huge earthquake soon and California was going to break off and fall in the water. I was traumatized thinking that we were all going to die soon until my mom found me crying and set me straight.

I used to believe that on a cloudy day I could sing to the sun and it would come out for a minute. I would ask my mom "did you notice any sunny times today?"
I used to believe that if a rose was black it was satanic. If you held one it would fly up and cut that hand off.

Thunder was the sound of clouds crashing together, and the rain would pour out of the holes in the clouds produced by the crash.
when i was young i was told that thunder represented god moving the chairs about
I always thought that the layers of the atmosphere (ionsphere, stratosphere, etc) were separated, and that each layer was uniform throughout, rather than all the layers mixed together in a gradient. Also, I thought that atmosphere was contained in a bubble-like shield so all of the atmosphere wouldn't escape out into space. Ozone layer was also a type of shield (I always imagined them as a type of translucent shiny bubble), and the hole was a literal hole where there was no ozone at all. I guess that's what happens from looking at so many diagrams =P
My husband's mother used to tell him that when it was thundering that was just God moving furniture around his house.
When I was little, I used to believe that thunder was actually the sound made when God moved furniture around in heaven.
I used to believe that humans beings lived on every single planet of the solar system. When I found out we live on earth only I thought 'oh the universe isn't large at all!'
When I was little I used to believe that we all lived in a gaint shoe box that belonged to gaints and the stars where the air holes from when they put the lid on at night!
Because of the Wizard of Oz, I thought that everyone who lived in Kansas died from tornados. When I found out that friends were moving there, I became hysterical wondering why they would want to move somewhere death surely awaited them.
I used to believe that lightning at night was God's way of telling me to go to sleep.
When I was really little, I thought that maybe mountains and valleys were created by dinosaurs. I thought dinosaurs were big enough that, when they made a step, mud would squish out from under their feet and form the mountains; valleys were left where their footprints originally were.
Remember Ricky the Rain Drop? When I was in first grade I used to think that I was killing Ricky if I drank water or flushed the toilets. I got over it fast though cuz I learned that I needed water to survive the next day at school...

Thunder was my dead uncle in heaven playing a round of bowling with God.
