When I looked at the globe, I used to believe for a long time that the world (and us) was actually inside the giant blue sphere and the blue sphere was the blue sky.

I used to believe that when people talked about the tectonic plates, they meant that the entire earth rested on two dinner plates and that is what kept the earth in space. Because of this, I couldn't understand how the whole earth didn't shake when there was an earthquake.

I once knew a girl who used to believe that the sun was actaully a really bright gold fish very high up.

I used to think that piles of rocks that farmers would pick out of fields were actually for a 'rock farm'. You would plant sand in the ground and you would get rocks in a few years!

When I was little, I didn't understand that hurricanes are given names, and everytime they said "hurricane isabelle" I thought that was the weather reporter's name.

When I was in first grade, I got a book about what would happen if you were able to dig through the earth. It explained that the earth had a "thin crust" and below it was many different layers of rock. My sister and I, not realizing that the "thin crust" was still several hundred feet thick, decided to dig to the rock layer. Since we lived in New England, about two inches into digging we hit a large rock. We decided that this was the rock layer and were very pleased with ourselves.

After reading a book to the class about the solar system, one of my daycare kids believed the sun was going to blow up within days and Earth would be gone. I found out from his concerned parents the next day and it took alot of convincing to make him think otherwise.

When my mother was little she believed that night was the result of the world being put inside a paper bag so everyone could go to sleep. The stars and the moon was the outside light shining through the air holes.

I used to believe that there was an off switch to the ocean so that it could go to sleep at night.

I used to believe that the angels sat up in the clouds and when it rained they were throwing buckets of water off the edge of the clouds. I would watch the rain looking for gaps thinking that was when they had to run and fill their buckets with more water.

As a child, when it rained I used to think someone had had forgot to turn off the faucet left the water running, in heaven.

When I was a little girl, going outside at night was always something that filled me with awe because I believed that the sound of crickets was the sound of the stars twinkling

For some reason at one point when I was a kid I thought tornadoes were a good thing and wished we lived somewhere where the was a tornado everyday (ya I was weird)

I used to think that people made paper by cutting trees really really thin through the middle. And I was confused because I didn't know how they made so much paper because only trees with a big enough diameter could be made in the rectangular shape of a piece of paper. And I thought it was so wasteful that people just cut off the circular/round edges of the papers, and I didn't understand why they didn't just make pieces of paper circular so as to save paper.

I used to think that the big chimneys at factories used to make the clouda cause I would see the smoke coming out of them and drifting into the sky
