When I was little, my grandpa had me convinced that telephone poles grew like that in special telephone pole forests. It took me years to realize that he was "pulling my leg" as Granma put it.

I used to believe that when you blew a bubble and it floated out of sight before popping, it would turn into a planet.
I used to believe that, at night, snow and/or rain came from streetlights. I never took into account where I thought it came from during the day... but at night I was certain it came from streetlights.
Ever since I can remember, I always thought I could talk to the wind. If it was blowing hard, I would put my hands on my hips and say "Stop being so cranky!" and the like for different situations... Sometimes I'm still tempted to ;)

Having grown up in the city, I thought that pavement was the natural state of the world, that lawns were where the cement had been removed, and that curbs were how deep the soil was.
I always thought that when there was thunder during a storm, it meant that either God was really mad or he was bowling. I thought that when it was raining that angels were crying.
When I was little, my mom told me thunder was the sound of the clouds bumping heads. Every time thunder struck, I'd say "Ow, Mommy! Those poor clouds are gonna have migrates!"
When I was a child we spent alot of time outside at night camping etc...I used to associate the sounds crickets with the stars in the sky. I thought that the stars were making the noise when crickets chirp each time they twinkled.

I used to believe that, by moving their branches from one side to another, trees made wind.
I was told by my Dad that I had to stay inside during a hurricane because the eye would spot me and come destroy the house. I think i was 14 when I stopped dreaming of this huge eye looking at me.
When I first came to the U.S. I was 5 years old and it was winter. A few days into the move to our apartment in NYC it had snowed overnight. When I first saw the snow I thought it was piles of sugar all over the streets. I asked my dad why there was sugar all over the streets, he laughed.
When I was young I didn't know we lived on a planet or about gravity. Then one day my grandma told me we lived on the planet Earth and how gravity worked. As soon I realized that Earth was just a ball floating in the middle of space I was too scared to move. I thought that my movement would cause the "ball" to drop instantly and we would all die. I would also walk around holding on to things since Earth was a sphere and I was scared of falling off the planet.
