When I was young, I used to believe that we lived "inside" the globe and what we on maps are actually what the clouds form in the sky. Then one day, mom told me we lived "on" earth. I was scared as hell, and avoided going out of my home at night because I feared I'd fall off the surface!

When I was 4 my granparents and I drove from South Carolina to Disney World in Orlando, Fl. Along the way they kept telling me about the vast fields of amazing orange trees in Florida. When we got to Florida we drove through these vast fields, but when I looked the trees were not orange...they were the same color as regular trees...they just had oranges on them. I couldn't believe it. My grandparents were surprised by my dissappointment...and quite amused. I still wish there were "orange" trees.
I used to think we were all living inside the earth instead of on top of it. I wondered how space ships got out. Did they poke a hole through the earth to reach space?

I used to believe that when it rained, Angels were crying. And when it thundered, the Greek Gods were playing bowling.
I used to believe that sharks could appear in any water that was deep enough, like the shower, bath, or swimming pool.

When I was little me and my twin brother used to think people would drive big trucks into the ocean and poor salt in the ocean.
When I was a very young child I believed that islands were thin flat discs of land floating on the ocean's surface with some unknown tether anchoring them to the seabed.
when i was 5, at school, we were playing outside and it started to rain. then one of my friends said that it was god's urine. i ran inside and refused to come out for ages. i was scared of the rain for many years after and now, when i walk to school, i splash them with puddles and laugh-though they don't anfer they come into school soaking wet!

When I was a child, I believed that thunder was God playing on the computer.
I used to believe those streaks in the sky (the ones airplanes or jets leave) were made by Mighty Mouse. I always tried looking for him, but I always missed him, since he was so fast.
When I was little and my parents would take me along for a ride in the car..I believed that when my mother pointed out a bare spot on a mountain....I thought that was where all the bears hung out. I never questioned her, so I believed this for a very long time. Until I was old enough to know better! One day it dawned on me........That is NOT where the bears hang out. Just a bare spot.
When I was a child my Dad's mother was so frightened by Thunder storms she would unplug all elect. appliances and turn off all the lights and the whole family would have to sit in the dark middle of the room.
My father so hated this that as a small child he would take me out to sit in the car with him to watch the storm. When there was thunder and lightening he would say the thunder was the clouds banging together and the lightening the sparks from the bump.
I still enjoy thunder storms and passed on to my daughter the reason for the thunder and lighting
When I was younger I used to believe that the coke plant down the street from my house was a cloud maker because it used to spew out big clouds of smoke every day that looked like clouds. Turns out it was just pollution.
I believed that Clouds were actually Lions, made from giant cotton balls. Loads of cotton balls.
When i used to see the dried up dirt, with lines through it, all broken up, i thought that there had been an earthquake there.
I used to belive that places are colder when they're clean:
When I was 7 I came back from London and I told my friend that it's so cold there. And she said "yeah, that's because the streets there are much cleaner than here. It's like when you come back home to a clean house and it always feels colder. Well, it's the same with streets..."
The saddest part is that I thought it was true until I was in th 10th grade.

I used to think that the tree branches moving was making the wind, not the wind making the tree branches move.
When I was on holiday with my parents once, we saw a flooded quarry. I asked why nobody was swimming in it and my mother told me it was too deep to swim in. For years I believed that there was some depth at which water became too deep to swim in and you would simply sink to the bottom. Even now I'm wary of swimming in deep lakes!
I used to think gravel was the same as gravity. Like the rocks in our driveway are what held us to the earth. When you think about it, gravity is hard to perceive when it's so intangible.
I used to believe tornadoes had "eyes" in a sense, because my parents always told me to close the windows and blinds. So I thought if they saw an open window or saw inside your home, they were gravitated toward it and would destroy your home. haha
