Until quite recently, I thought that christmas trees were obtained by workers climbing to the top of large evergreens and cutting off the tips. I always wondered where all the forests with the topless trees were. My boyfriend still teases me about it and points out every tree farm we pass.

I believed that I could walk to, and touch, the setting sun, if only I was allowed to cross the big road that passed between me and the West.

I always saw a crocodile on the moon, none of this man-in-the-moon nonsense
My mum had a rubber plant and she used to steal rubbers from her work and put them on the plant each month and told me that it actually used to grow the rubbers and thats where all the rubbers in the world came from!
I used to believe that the stars in the sky were one of two things: 1) they were holes created in the floor of heaven by the high heels of dancing girl angels and, 2) they were little peep holes created by all the people in heaven. They used the holes to look down on their familes below and make sure they were safe. (My dad passed away recently, so I'm back to believing this one.)
I believed many of those sparkling things in the sky were satellites. Every company, every satellite tv, radio, and telephone company had at least a dozen of them. It wasn't until I was in my early 20s that I learned in a college astronomy class that satellites are extremely hard to see. ... During a lab outdoors at night I pointed out to my professor (who happened to work for Nasa in his free time) what I though was a satellite. He informed me it was a star. I then proceeded to ask why it was flashing red, white, and blue then (because, American satellites flash lights that we can see, right?). He very flatly said "it's twinkling."

I always believed when it rained here, it rained all over the world, so I couldn't figure out why deserts exsisted.
I used to believe that the sun was following me
I used to believe that you heard the sea through the large sea shells I collected as a child. One night I was convinced I heard the clanking sounds of an anchor being dropped and told my whole class the next day, I was glad my teacher did not spoil this conviction out me out...
I used to believe each country was a planet
I used to think stars were the persons in the sky
I used to believe that sound of the sky (still not sure where it comes from exactly) just before a storm, when clouds were gray and it sounded like rain was about to start, that it meant God was growling. Apparently he was growling either because he was angry or he was telling everyone to go back inside. Either way, he was saying, "It's about to rain."
I always thought that, when Mama told me he was mad before a storm, that he was mad because he had plans that would be ruined because of the rain. I stopped believing that all at about ten.
I used to believe that I was the only one who could see the clouds move.
I used to believe that the moon was nothing more than the sun that God put a 'moon pocket' on. The reason why we could only see one side of it was because the zipper was on the other side.
When I was little, I was terrified of natural disaters like hurricanes and volcanoes. I asked my parents when I was really young if there could ever be an earthquake where we lived. They said no and gave me some kind of reason that I never remembered, but since then I always imagined that the people in our state had long ago placed this huge metal plate deep underground to prevent earthquakes, and I would sometimes wonder why places like California and Japan didn't do the same. I occasionally still have to remind myself that it's because of fault lines and not whether or not there are underground metal plates.
I got a mouth full of ocean water in my mouth when I was three or four, and quickly asked my parents who put the salt in the water. I also developed my own theories. I used to believe that the reason why the ocean was salty is because people would lean off the docks and pour table salt in the water.
When I was little, I used to think that the moon was following me when I rode in the car. If i was in trouble, I would remind my parents that the moon was going to take me from them if they weren't nice!
I used to believe that the clouds tasted like cotton candy.. and it's all you can eat clouds..when you get to heaven..
i used to believe that the sky was the bottom of the ocean, and we were at the bottom looking up, and that if you got the bottom of the actual ocean you'd fall out of the "sky"
