i used to believe that twin towns and cities look exactly the same as the ones they are twinned with. The houses, the streets, shops, even the people who live in 'em.
Then we drove though a twin town in Germany and everything looked different. What a downer.

when someone explained to me that the other side of the earth was opposite of us i thought this meant that when we were in summer, china was having winter.

Until I was about 9 I believed that all the globes and maps of the world used by people who lived south of the equator were upside-down to ours in the northern hemisphere with the south pole at the top.

I used to believe that when it rained, it was raining everywhere on the entire earth. I didn't know that it came from clouds.

I used to believe that the clouds moving was caused by the spinning of the Earth... that the clouds stayed in one spot.

I used to believe that by whistling, the wind would blow harder...so up until the 5th grade when I found out this wasn't true, I kept on whistling and my friends would ask me what I was doing.

When I was very little, my mom planted some snapdragons and other flowers... Apparently, I had an affinity for picking flowers, and in order to keep me from picking the snapdragons, my mom told me that they were named "snapdragons" because they looked a little like dragons and had mouths, and if a little girl tried to pick them they would SNAP!! that little girl's fingers off and eat them. I was terrified of snapdragons for years after that!

I live in California where we have frequent earthquakes. When I was four, I experienced my first one (the big '89 earthquake) while I was singing in the shower. Later on that evening my dad explained to me that when god doesn't like what you're doing, he makes earthquakes. He did a little demonstration of shaking a lego piece on a magazine until the lego piece fell off. Then it was bedtime and I couldn't go to sleep so I asked my mom for a glass of water. When she came back with the water, we had an aftershock which felt like our apartment building was tipping over. She sat down just as it stopped and for the longest time I thought that she stopped the building from falling with her weight. I ALSO thought that I was the cause of that earthquake because god hated my song, so for years I tried to remember that song I sang in the shower.

When i was younger i thaught that thunder came when two skies crashed and the ligthning was sparks

I used to believe all liquids were water-based with things added to it to make different kinds of liquids.

Rain is God peeing. I don't remember if I believed that entirely, or just thought "what if?"

When I was little my grandma told me that when it thundered the angels were bowling. I also believed that the lighnening was the lights they used to light the bowling alley. I believed that for several years.

I used to beleive that the northern lights were a set of lights of various colours that flew around the earth.

One day when my little brother was about 4 or 5 years old it was raining really hard. I told him the sky was falling, not really expecting him to beleive me. But he did! He started crying and ran and hid under a table. I felt really bad after that so i told him I was joking.

when i was 5 i said that when it rained it was god taking a shower when it thundered he was bowling, and when there was lightning he was playin with a flashlight.

I used to believe that when me and my friends used to go hop-picking (the stuff you make beer out of) every september when we was little, we would dare each other to go sixteen steps down the row.
But no-one ever did sixteen, because legend has it, that the hop ghost would get you when you reached sixteen steps and you would never come back

That legend has gone on for centeries (sp?) and no-one is brave enough to do sixteen.

When I was about 4, we lived in an area that was known for severe weather and even tornadoes. During the stormy season we would sleep in the kitchen, which was the center of our house and had no windows. Somehow I misunderstood and heard tormadoes and thought that a giant, vicious, huge tomato with enormous teeth dripping of green slime would come screaming at your house and rip it to shreds trying to find little girls to eat. I suppose I had a bit of an over active imagination... Now I know what tornadoes are (some reason not so scary) and like to tell the story to my nieces and nephews.
