When I was little, I thought that every time the sky got dark, God was walking out of a room, and he turned off the lights so his electricity bill wouldn't be too high.

When I was in kindergarten, a boy in my class told me that the rubber button-looking thing on the wall in the bathroom was an earthquake button. He said that if there was an earthquake, you push it in and it would keep the walls from falling down. It never occurred to me to question that, until many years later (I'm embarrassed to admit how old I was) when someone said something to me about the rubber doorstop. Before I could stop the words from coming out, I said, "Oh, that's what that is? I thought it was an earthquake button." Needless to say, I earned myself quite a lot of teasing for that one!
I used to have a tremendous fear of thunderstorms and I used to believe if I played with or touched anything black during a rainstorm, that it meant god would think I wanted thunder and lightning.
When heavy thunderstorms would come around and there would be lots of lightning, I thought that it was God taking pictures of people who did bad things. I told my little sister to never stand near the window when there's lightning, or else God might take her picture and get her in trouble. She was really scared about it and we'd both hide under the covers of our beds until the storms would go away. I eventually realized why I thought this--because an adult friend of my parents who was visiting during a heavy thunderstorm said that lightning was God just taking pictures with his camera in heaven. And then not too long after I saw on a TV show some criminals getting their pictures taken after being arrested for some bad crimes. They were black & white pictures. The lightning from storms would appear against a gray cloudy background. So naturally, I put all this together in my nutty little head. ;-)
When I was about 5 or 6 my friend told me that if the weatherman said that there was a tornado, you had to be extra quiet because if you talk too loudly, the tornado would hear you and come after you and suck you up into the clouds. The only way to protect yourself was to fight the tornado (yes, punching and kicking) off and hope you win and scare it away.

When travelling along country roads at night, I thought the lights of distant towns were farmers lights so that they could plough their fields when it was dark

I used to think that clouds were made out of snow. In the summer I would stare at the "snow" up in the sky and wish that it would fall down.
Up until when I was six or seven I used to think that the earth was flat! Funny how the Greeks thought the same.

I used to believe that if I threw hard enough, I could get a penny to land on the moon, after watching something about some fake story on a wedding ring being found on the moon. So I'd throw money up to the sky. The coins i couldn't find anymore I assumed made it.
When I was about 7 one night at a school holiday camp on the beach I could see the edges of all the clouds over the water glowing. The older kids told me it was the sign of a tidal wave coming. I got really scared and ran and told one of the camp leaders about it. It was just the full moon lighting up the clouds.
When I was little i use to HATE storms so my dad made me believe that when a storm was coming i should clean the whole house and the storm would go away. Suprisingly it did sometimes! haha.
