I used to think that when the crickets chirped at night, it was the stars making that noise because when I looked at the stars, they neemed to flicker and it corresponded with the chirping of the crickets...sometimes when I listen to the crickets now, I still get the image in my mind of the starts glowing and flickering.

I never realized that hurricanes were named as they started to form. It confused me as a kid when hurricane Gloria was coming - how did they know it was Gloria? Was there a certain way the wind blew that determined it was Gloria and not, say Andrew?

When I was a child, there was a house with a monkey-puzzle tree in the garden. It was very sinister looking, and we all believed that you couldn't speak when walking past it, or terrible things would befall you. No matter how noisy we were as children, none of us spoke when passing this tree. To this day, I still can't pass a monkey puzzle tree without remembering, and without speaking!

I used to believe that giants roamed the earth and one day they all laid down and died, and that's how hills and mountains and the landscape were defined! It's the lumps and bumps of their dead bodies.

People told me that the Big Red Spot (storm) on Jupiter was big enough to fit 100 earths into it.

For years after I was scared that the earth would get sucked inside Jupiter.

When I was in third grade, I read in a science book that someday the sun would become a nova. I must have figured "someday" was imminent because would I lay awake night after night wishing that the sun would not explode and incinerate the Earth. The sun seems to be holding together so far...

I used to think the CareBears lived on the moon, and the blackish spots (actually craters) were where the CareALot cities were.

I used to believe that the stars are actually star-shaped (like a pentagram or the star of david), and they only seemed dotlike since they are so far away.

I used to believe that to make it rain God turns on a lot of bath showers that were in the clouds. (I would even imagine God quickly turing hundreds of showers to make rain!)

When i was little i some how started believing that when i went to the beach, i could make the waves become higher if i started to slap the waves and start telling them that "You are pathetic waves! You not even making me fall over! What was that? You make me sick! That bearly went over my knees!"

I thought the waves would get angry and get bigger.

I used to believe that maps were made by placing a pencil tip on a piece of paper while sitting in the backseat of a car, and letting the bumps dictate the outline of the land.

I used to be terrified of thunderstorms when I was a child. Then one night one of my moms good friends came over to babysit. There are one heckuva thunderstorm. She noticed I was scared and told me that thunder was angels clapping and lighting was God shining his flash light. It worked; I was never again afraid of a t-storm.

I believed that we lived inside the earth, not on it. This was probably because there was a cartoon sticker on my cupboard of two rockets exploding through the surface of the earth. The image left me wondering just how space shuttles actually managed to burst through the earth's 'skin' to make it into space. Bizarre
