As a child, I was frequently on trips with my family to the Appalachian mountains, and that was the one place where I'd then seen Rhododendrons, which grow in abundance there. But we went on very few hiking trails, and what hiking we did do was very short, because my father had a bad knee. So most of our observatins were from or near roads, and all rhododendrons that I clearly saw were along or near roads. So I thought that was the only place they grew, and that the "rhod-" part of their name came from their occurrence alongside roads.
I used to believe that the sun and the moon were back to back and they turned around slowly at the appropriate time (thats why there was a sunrise and sunset)

When I was about 7 my brother who was in preschool told me that in school he ran over a rainbow. I believed him and I couldn't wait for it to rain so I could "make a rainbow." Really he had just gone down a slide and pretended it was a rainbow.

After playing halo, i began to think that the world was actually a huge megastructure, which explained iron deposits deep in the earth's crust. When i learned that things like iron and coal were made from compression of dead organisms, that thought collapsed on itself.
When I was really small, I saw hail in summer and was convinced it was snowing.
Also, I saw the moon in the morning once and for some reason became convinced it was trying to steal my breakfast!!
